Lyonchhen to visit Luxembourg from Tuesday
Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay will be on an official visit to Luxembourg on 22nd September 2015 at the invitation of the Prime Minister Xavier Bettel of Luxembourg.
This will be the first high- level visit to Luxembourg from Bhutan after the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2011. The two Prime Ministes had met in Brussels on the sidelines of the European Development Days in June 2015.
During the visit, Lyonchhen will call on Grand Duke Henri and meet with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, and discuss ways to future strengthen bilateral relation and cooperation in various areas.
Luxembourg has one of the strongest economies In Europe that is driven by its highly specialized sectors with the most important being banking.
From Luxembourg, Lyonchhen will travel to New York where he will lead the Bhutanese delegation to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development summit and the 70th Regular session of the United Nations General Assembly. The summit takes place against the back drop of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations. World Leaders will adopt the new global development agenda transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development.
While in New York, Lyonchhen will participate in number of high panel discussions and events, and conduct bilateral meetings with counterparts of partner counties and UN Agencies. Given the proximity to the convening of the UNFCCC CoP21 in Paris, and the importance attached by the Royal Government to safeguarding the environment, combating climate change and the imperative for an ambitious Paris Agreement will receive particularly emphasis.
Lyonchhen will address the Plenary of the Summit on 25th September 2015. Lyonchhen will be accompanied in New York by Foreign Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji , who will participate in the General Debate of the 70th Session of the General Assembly.
