Ly­onch­hen to visit Lux­em­bourg from Tuesday

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay will be on an of­fi­cial visit to Lux­em­bourg on 22nd Septem­ber 2015 at the in­vi­ta­tion of the Prime Min­is­ter Xavier Bet­tel of Lux­em­bourg.

This will be the first high- level visit to Lux­em­bourg from Bhutan after the two coun­tries es­tab­lished diplo­matic re­la­tions in 2011. The two Prime Min­istes had met in Brussels on the side­lines of the Euro­pean De­vel­op­ment Days in June 2015.

Dur­ing the visit, Ly­onch­hen will call on Grand Duke Henri and meet with the Prime Min­is­ter of Lux­em­bourg, and dis­cuss ways to fu­ture strengthen bilateral re­la­tion and co­op­er­a­tion in var­i­ous ar­eas.

Lux­em­bourg has one of the strong­est economies In Europe that is driven by its highly spe­cial­ized sec­tors with the most im­por­tant be­ing bank­ing.

From Lux­em­bourg, Ly­onch­hen will travel to New York where he will lead the Bhutanese del­e­ga­tion to the United Na­tion’s Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment sum­mit and the 70th Reg­u­lar ses­sion of the United Na­tions Gen­eral Assem­bly. The sum­mit takes place against the back drop of the 70th An­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of the United Na­tions. World Lead­ers will adopt the new global de­vel­op­ment agenda trans­form­ing our world: the 2030 Agenda for the Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment.

While in New York, Ly­onch­hen will par­tic­i­pate in num­ber of high panel dis­cus­sions and events, and con­duct bilateral meet­ings with coun­ter­parts of part­ner coun­ties and UN Agen­cies. Given the prox­im­ity to the con­ven­ing of the UNFCCC CoP21 in Paris, and the im­por­tance at­tached by the Royal Govern­ment to safe­guard­ing the en­vi­ron­ment, com­bat­ing cli­mate change and the im­per­a­tive for an am­bi­tious Paris Agree­ment will re­ceive par­tic­u­larly em­pha­sis.

Ly­onch­hen will ad­dress the Ple­nary of the Sum­mit on 25th Septem­ber 2015. Ly­onch­hen will be ac­com­pa­nied in New York by For­eign Min­is­ter Ly­onpo Dam­cho Dorji , who will par­tic­i­pate in the Gen­eral De­bate of the 70th Ses­sion of the Gen­eral Assem­bly.
