First ses­sion of the Bhutan chil­dren com­menced

The First Ses­sion of the Bhutan Chil­dren Par­lia­ment (BCP) com­menced at the Democ­racy House in Kawa­jangsa with the 3 day ori­en­ta­tion pro­gramme from 29th till 31st of De­cem­ber 2015. Dur­ing the Ori­en­ta­tion, the Mem­bers of the BCP (MBCP) will be briefed on var­i­ous as­pects of the Bhutanese Democ­racy and elec­toral sys­tem.

On 1st of Jan­uary 2016 the Mem­bers will be elect­ing the Speaker, Dy. Speaker, Chair­per­son & Dy. Chair­per­son for the Na­tional As­sem­bly and the Na­tional Coun­cil of the Bhutan Chil­dren Par­lia­ment re­spec­tively.

The for­mal Ses­sion of the Bhutan Chil­dren Par­lia­ment (BCP) will be from 4th to 8th of Jan­uary 2016 with an In­au­gu­ral Cer­emo- ny at a Joint Ses­sion on 4th of Jan­uary 2016 fol­lowed by the sep­a­rate House Sit­tings.

The BCP will again have its joint ses­sion on 7th & 8th Jan­uary 2016 where the Draft Rules of Pro­ce­dure of BCP 2015 will be adopted and the Min­utes and Res­o­lu­tions of the First Ses­sion fi­nal­ized. The con­clud­ing cer­e­mony will be in the af­ter­noon of 8th of Jan­uary 2016.

There are 63 MBCP at­tend­ing the said Ori­en­ta­tion Pro­gramme out of which 20 are BCP-NC Mem­bers and 43 are BCPNA Mem­bers. They are ac­com­pa­nied by 21 es­cort teach­ers who are also Democ­racy Club Co­or­di­na­tors.

Cur­rently the BCP-NA does not have a rep­re­sen­ta­tive from Som­baykha (Haa Dzongkhag), Kengkhar_Wer­ingla (Mong­gar Dzongkhag), Khar_Yu­rung (Pema Gat­shel Dzongkhag) and Ling­mukha_Toed­wang (Pu­nakha Dzongkhag), as there are no Democ­racy Clubes ini­ti­ated in th­ese Demkhongs.

An ex­tra-cur­ric­u­lar pro­gramme is also be­ing un­der­taken to pro­vide op­por­tu­nity for the Mem­bers to get to know each other as well as to have a mean­ing­ful as well as an en­joy­able ex­pe­ri­ence
