About 7,300 registered voters will go for the polls tomorrow for the post of Thrompon and Thromde Tshogpa and Thromde Thuemis. There are about 19 polling stations in the three Dzongkhag Thromdes of Thimphu, Phuentshogling and Gelephu. The ratio of the male to female voters is about 54% and 46% as per the final electoral list released by the Election Commission of Bhutan.

As per the section 329 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Election Commission of Bhutan has declared 25th of January as public holiday. As per the notification issued by ECB all the offices and business in these Thromdes will remain closed.

The Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs has announced that due to the Thromde elections of Gelegphu and Phuentshogling on the 25th of January, 2015 the international border will remain closed from 6PM today till 6PM tomorrow.

In Thimphu a lone contestant Kinley Dorji will contest for the post of the Thrompon. As the voters have to press yes and no it will be easy for the voters to decide their next mayor. His pledges include the construction of 16 housing units for the low income workers, complete renovation of Changangkha Lhakhang and relocation of meat shops to the centenary farmers market. He also pledge for an initiate public partnership in waste, water, infrastructure and parking management.

In Phuentshogling Tsheten Dorji a thrompon candidate has been disqualified by the Election Commission of Bhutan last Friday. He possessed a valid trade license as of date of filing nomination which is in contradiction to the Section 163 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008. As such the voters in Phuentshogling Thromde will now also have to press yes and no for their lone candidate Uttar Kumar Rai.

The situation in Gelelegphu is more comfortable with three candidates contesting for the post of Mayor. Hasta B Gurung former director with the department of national library and archives, Tshering Norbu an IT graduate from Sherubtse College from Tashiling Demkhong and Tikaram Kafley a former executive engineer with the Gelephu Thromde will be racing for the post of Thrompon. The main causes of concerns are the security, the road net works and the public service deliveries. The three of the contesting seems to be already pitching for the above issues.

Now with almost only few hours left for the election and all the registered voters are advised to carry their voter photo identity card and citizenship card while going to the polling stations.

As the voters cast their vote just remember the candidate who is fit for the post and never waste your franchise given by your King.
