Harka Bdr. Gu­rung is a one of the Thrompon can­di­dates from Sam­dru­pling Demkhong in Geleg­phu, wait­ing en­thu­si­as­ti­cally for the elec­tion.

Adopt­ing con­sul­ta­tive ap­proaches, en­sur­ing ef­fi­cient de­liv­ery of ser­vices, re­vis­it­ing the rates of tax­a­tion and other levies, de­vel­op­ing in­fra­struc­tures and eco­nomic op­por­tu­ni­ties by en­cour­ag­ing and invit­ing na­tional and in­ter­na­tional in­vestors and mak­ing Gele­phu a thriv­ing eco­nomic hub and gate­way to Cen­tral Bhutan are some of Harka’s pri­or­ity as a Thrompon.

Gu­rung has B.A Hon­ors in English from Pun­jab Univer­sity, Chandi­garh, In­dia fol­lowed by Post grad­u­ate Diploma in De­vel­op­ment Ad­min­is­tra­tion from Birm­ing­ham Univer­sity, United King­dom.

He has also done Pro­ject Man­age­ment and Pro­gram Ad­min­is­tra­tion (cer­tifi­cate course) from Hol­land and Man­age­ment De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram, cer­tifi­cate course from Asian In­sti­tute of Man­age­ment, Philip- pines.

Gu­rung joined civil ser­vice as Trainee Of­fi­cer and en­ter­ing the ferry with 38 years of ex­pe­ri­ence in the civil ser­vice hold­ing many im­por­tant posts. He served as Deputy Di­rec­tor and Deputy Sec­re­tary in Min­istry of Home and Cul­tural Affairs and Ram­jam Gom, Dzon­grab and Dungpa in Dzongkhags.

He served 9 and half years as Deputy Pro­ject Co-co­or­di­na­tor of In­te­grated Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram (ISDP), Zhem­gang Dzongkhag, Joint Di­rec­tor in Na­tional En­vi­ron­ment Com­mis­sion (NEC) and re­signed as Di­rec­tor, Na­tional Li­brary & Ar­chives, and Depart­ment of Cul­ture.

“I had the unique and mem­o­rable op­portu- nity of be­ing posted at Gele­phu two times as Ram­jam Gom/Dzon­grab and Dungpa dur­ing early and late 1980s dur­ing which I could gauge the in­ner sit­u­a­tion and prob­lems of Gele­phu, earn re­spect, love and af­fec­tion of the peo­ple but I could not con­trib­ute my all-out ef­forts for Throm de­vel­op­ment as there were then lim­i­ta­tions in the scope of my re­spon­si­bil­i­ties.” Said Gu­rung.

He also men­tioned, “Now at this fag end of my ac­tive life, I am fully mo­ti­vated and de­ter­mined to give my best for Gele­phu Throm with the ob­jec­tive to leave my legacy and foot­print by mak­ing ev­ery ef­fort to make Gele­phu the model Throm of Bhutan and I fore­see the pos­si­bil­i­ties and po­ten­tial.”
