Harka Bdr. Gurung is a one of the Thrompon candidates from Samdrupling Demkhong in Gelegphu, waiting enthusiastically for the election.
Adopting consultative approaches, ensuring efficient delivery of services, revisiting the rates of taxation and other levies, developing infrastructures and economic opportunities by encouraging and inviting national and international investors and making Gelephu a thriving economic hub and gateway to Central Bhutan are some of Harka’s priority as a Thrompon.
Gurung has B.A Honors in English from Punjab University, Chandigarh, India followed by Post graduate Diploma in Development Administration from Birmingham University, United Kingdom.
He has also done Project Management and Program Administration (certificate course) from Holland and Management Development Program, certificate course from Asian Institute of Management, Philip- pines.
Gurung joined civil service as Trainee Officer and entering the ferry with 38 years of experience in the civil service holding many important posts. He served as Deputy Director and Deputy Secretary in Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs and Ramjam Gom, Dzongrab and Dungpa in Dzongkhags.
He served 9 and half years as Deputy Project Co-coordinator of Integrated Sustainable Development Program (ISDP), Zhemgang Dzongkhag, Joint Director in National Environment Commission (NEC) and resigned as Director, National Library & Archives, and Department of Culture.
“I had the unique and memorable opportu- nity of being posted at Gelephu two times as Ramjam Gom/Dzongrab and Dungpa during early and late 1980s during which I could gauge the inner situation and problems of Gelephu, earn respect, love and affection of the people but I could not contribute my all-out efforts for Throm development as there were then limitations in the scope of my responsibilities.” Said Gurung.
He also mentioned, “Now at this fag end of my active life, I am fully motivated and determined to give my best for Gelephu Throm with the objective to leave my legacy and footprint by making every effort to make Gelephu the model Throm of Bhutan and I foresee the possibilities and potential.”
