Ly­onch­hen in­au­gu­rates the first wind power pro­ject in Rubesa

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay in­au­gu­rated the first pi­lot wind power pro­ject in Rubesa in Wang­due last Wed­nes­day. The govern­ment rec­og­niz­ing the im­por­tance of re­new­able en­ergy in­tro­duced wind tur­bines for gen­er­at­ing elec­tric­ity for the first time in the coun­try. At the event, Ly­onch­hen said that with the com­mis­sion­ing of wind­mills, Bhutan is able to trap yet an­other kind of re­new­able en­ergy – wind en­ergy. Ly­onch­hen also con­grat­u­lated the of­fi­cials from the Depart­ment of Re­new­able En­ergy, Min­istry of Eco­nomic Affairs for a suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of the pro­ject. This pi­lot pro­ject is be­ing funded by Asian De­vel­op­ment Bank and will be im­ple­mented by Bhutan Power Cor­po­ra­tion Lim­ited. The two wind­mills to­gether will gen­er­ate 600KW of power. The pro­ject took 18 months for the Depart­ment of Re­new­able En­ergy, un­der the Min­istry of Eco­nomic Affairs to in­stall the tur­bines. It was de­vel­oped at the cost of Nu 177 M funded by the Asian De­vel­op­ment Bank. Ly­onpo Norbu Wangchuk, Min­istry of Eco­nomic Affairs and Ly­onpo Tandin Wangchuk, Min­istry of Health also at­tended the event.
