Phuentshogling and Geleg­phu Thomde elect lo­cal govern­ment rep­re­sen­ta­tives

With the se­cond Lo­cal Govern­ment Elec­tions in Thim­phu, Phuentshogling and Geleg­phu were held last Mon­day. Th­ese three Dzongkhag Thromdes have now elected their se­cond Thromde Tshon­g­due.

In Phuentshogling Thromde Ut­tar Ku­mar Rai , 38 from Nye­drag Demkhong won the vote by a nar­row mar­gin of 9 vot­ers , out of 776 el­i­gi­ble vot­ers 487 turn up to vote for their Thrompon in Phuntshol­ing out of which 248 voted “Yes” and 239 voted “No”.

Bi­mal Ku­mar Ghal­ley 30 from Pekharzhing con­stituency was elected as the Thromde Thuemi by se­cur­ing 287 against his two op­po­nents. The other con­tes­tants Renuka Rai from Pasakha Demkhong se­cured 101 vot­ers and Karma Chen from Phuentshogling Maed with 99 votes.

Nar Bar. Rai se­cured 39 “Yes” votes from Nye­drang Demkhong and Pra­vath Rai won 78 “Yes” votes from Pasakha con­stituency for the post of Thromde Tshogpa. In Phuntshogling Toe Demkhong Sharmila Limbu se­cured 58 votes and elected as a Tshogpa.

In Geleg­phu, Tikaram Kafley of Jam­pelling Demkhong won the vote out of three as­pi­rants by se­cur­ing 317, of that 1 vote was on postal bal­lot and 316 votes in elec­tronic vot­ing ma- chine (EVM). Whereas his op­po­nent Harka Bdr. Gu­rung from Sam­dru­pling Demkhong se­cured 155 votes and se­cond op­po­nent Tsh­er­ing Norbu, Trashiling Demkhong se­cured 206 votes.

New Thrompon of Geleg­phu said, “I am very much ex­cited to be elected as a Thrompon fifty per­cent is my hard work and fifty per­cent is pub­lic’s ef­fort how­ever the cred­its goes to all peo­ple of Geleg­phu. I should say the peo­ple of Geleg­phu Throm­doe have now won the race.”

“I highly honor their first own in­ter­est given to me. What­ever dreams I had to ren­der ser­vice to the peo­ple with lit­tle bit of wel­fare, com­fort and con­ve­nient would now able to at­tribute.” He added.

48 year-old Sithar Dor­jee, Namkhal­ing Demkhong who served 8 years as Thuemi was also re-elected as a Thuemi se­cur­ing 530 “Yes” votes and 148 “No” votes.

“Yearly I am get­ting new ideas and gain­ing more con­fi­dence in my­self to serve like a bridge be­tween peo­ple and govern­ment. Hope I will get an­other new ideas within this 5 years term,” Sithar Dor­jee said.

Thromde Tshogpa, Trashiling Demkhong Chen­cho Gyelt­shen, re­set­tled in Geleg­phu was elected by se­cur­ing 35 “Yes” votes and 25 “No” votes. “I served 5 years as a Tshogpa, Peo­ple of Geleg­phu have trust in me and they elected me again, fur­ther­more I will work harder to prove them that their choice is not wrong.” He said.

In Sam­dru­pling con­stituency Karchung won the vote by se­cur­ing 80 votes from his op­po­nent Rudra Mani Dula as he se­cured 47 votes only.

Lok Bdr Ch­hetri from Jam­pling Demkhong was elected as a Tshogpa se­cur­ing 97 “Yes” votes and 32 “No” votes. Tika Maya Karki is the only lady can­di­date was elected as Tshogpa with 48 votes of Sonam Gat­shel con­stituency.

Chimi from Rabdeyling Demkhong won the elec­tion by se­cur­ing 50 votes from her op­po­nent Dil Bdr Pradan for the Tshogpa‘s post.
