IM­PULSE Lead­er­ship Train­ing for Women in Sports, Bhutan

A three day sem­i­nar on women in sports started on 4th of Fe­bru­ary, 2016 at the Nam­gay Her­itage Ho­tel in Thim­phu. This is one of the first ini­tia­tives taken by the Gen­der and Sports Com­mit­tee of Bhutan af­ter its es­tab­lish­ment in 2014.

Im­pulse lead­er­ship train­ing for Women in Sports. Ashi Ke­sang Cho­den T. Wangchuck (Chair, Gen­der & Sports Com­mit­tee) and Mrs. Gabriela Muller Men­doza (Di­rec­tor, Pow­er­ful Coach­ing Change) with the par­tic­i­pants.

The Gen­der and Sports Com­mit­tee is a con­sul­ta­tive body of the Bhutan Olympic Com­mit­tee (BOC) that serves as a link be­tween the women, chil­dren and the BOC. Some of the main ob­jec­tives of the Gen­der and Sports Com­mit­tee are to em­pha­size the im­por­tance and as­sist in the pro­mo­tion of women, chil­dren, and vul­ner­a­ble groups in sports in the coun­try, en­cour­age fe­male par­tic­i­pa­tion in both tech­ni­cal and ad­min­is­tra­tive lev­els in sports and foster val­ues of sports among women and chil­dren.

With sup­port from the BOC and Olympic Sol­i­dar­ity, the ‘IM­PULSE’ sem­i­nar is con­ducted by Ms. Gabriela Mueller from Switzer­land. Ms. Gabriela is a pro­fes­sional com­mu­ni­ca­tions coach, trainer and a speaker.

This sem­i­nar is an­tic­i­pated to em­power, sup­port and en­cour­age the pro­mo­tion of women in sports at all lev­els, in all sports struc­tures and help im­ple­ment the prin­ci­ples of equal­ity of men and women in sports. Fur­ther, the Gen­der and Sports Com­mit­tee is ex­pect­ing to de­velop a long term strate­gic plan, based on the find­ings from the sem­i­nar. The 41 par­tic­i­pants con­sist of ath­letes, coaches, teacher and sports ad­min­is­tra­tors.
