John Kerry greets peo­ple in Hi­malayan re­gion on Losar

W ash­ing­ton :- US Sec­re­tary of State John Kerry has greeted peo­ple of the Hi­malayan re­gion in­clud­ing In­dia, Bhutan, Nepal and Ti­bet on Losar, the Ti­betan New Year.

“On be­half of Pres­i­dent (Barack) Obama and the peo­ple of the United States, I of­fer our warm­est wishes to all of the peo­ples of the Hi­malayan re­gion cel­e­brat­ing Losar for a joy­ful New Year,” Kerry said in a state­ment on Mon­day.

“The United States joins you in cel­e­brat­ing the his­tory and vi­brant cul­ture of the peo­ples of the Hi­malayan re­gion, in­clud­ing those in Bhutan, Nepal, In­dia, and Ti­betan ar­eas of the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of China,” he said.

The Losar fes­ti­val marks sa­cred and sec­u­lar prac­tices like prayers, cer­e­monies, rituals and folk danc­ing and mer­ry­mak­ing. Kerry said the rich cul­tural her­itage in song, po­etry, art, and lit­er­a­ture has en­riched hu­man­ity.

“As you gather with fam­ily and friends to cel­e­brate Losar, know that the US stands with you as a part­ner and friend. May the New Year be filled with peace and pros­per­ity,” Kerry said.
