The government of India releases additional fund
Bhutan received a sum of Nu. 1,967.628 million from the Government of India by cheques for project tied assistance projects and small development projects
The Secretary of the Gross National Happiness Commission, Sonam Wangchuk received the cheque from the Ambassador of India to Bhutan Mr. Jaideep Sarkar, Out of 1,967.628 million , Nu. 414.32 million is for Government of India project tied assistance projects and Nu. 1,553.308 million for small development project.
This release of funds of worth Nu. 1967.628 million pertains to preparation of detailed project report for KuriGongri , establishment of government data centre, strengthening of agriculture and marketing trade, Royal Institute of Governance and Strategic Studies (RIGSS) , construction of Election Commission of Bhutan, automate G2C and G2B’ project, automate G2G project , construction of rehabilitation centre and second installment of 2nd Batch 60% small development projects .
The Secretary of the Gross National Happiness Commission thanked Government of India for the timely release of funds. He informed that the Bhutan-India Development cooperation projects were at advance stage of implementation and efforts were being made to complete most projects on schedule and requested if remaining release of funds could be processed at an early date.
The Government of India has committed Nu. 45,000 million in the 11th Five year Plan to Bhutan. The detail break-up of the commitment is Nu. 28,000 million for project tied assistance (PTA), Nu. 8,500 million for program grant (PG) and Nu. 8,500 million for small development projects (SDP).
In this financial year (April 2015 – March 2016), the Government of India has released Nu. 11,178.471 million. A sum of Nu. 5,889.659 million for project tied assistance (PTA) , Small Development Project (SDP) Nu. 3,588.812 million and Programme Grant (PG) Nu. 1700 million). As on date, Government of India has released Nu. 10,769.93 million for Go I project tied assistance projects, Nu. 4,250 million for program grant and Nu. 4,524.422 million for small development projects to Bhutan .
In total, the government of India has released Nu. 19,544.352 million to Bhutan which is 43.43 % of total committed allocation in the 11th Five Year Plan Period.
