Olakha temporary vegetable market
Atemporary vegetable market shed located just above Babesa-Olakha highway is owned by Retd. Brigadier Sonam Rinchen who has lease out to almost 14 vegetable vendors.
The shed is planned and managed by Mr. Prakash Rai and Mr. Norgay from April last year with the prior approval from Thimphu Thromde (City Corporation) and Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA).
Mr. Prakash who is also the vendors said that this market shed is of only for temporary and once the new settlement reach out here, they have to shift to other places.
He added that for this place they need to pay monthly of Nu. 2300 per vendor as a fee. According to Mr. Prakash he says that the rates are same as centenary market and it also depend upon the season.
“They are facing problem with the vendors selling beyond the boundary which is not permissible to sell,” said Prakash.
Another vendor Mr. Norgay said that customers are really happy with the existing vegetable market shed as they can save taxi fare and their precious time because they get all the necessities that were sold in the market with the reasonable prizes.
Meanwhile, Prakash added that in near future the owner has planned to construct vegetable market shed but it is not fixed that when it will be done.
“If there is any plan in near future, they all have to shift from there,” said Prakash.
One of the customers Sangay said that although the place is freely accessible by all the visitors but the place is not properly settled and it looks untidy. Therefore he added that if Thromde could construct market shed it will be convenient for the vendors as well as for the customers.
