Ministry of Health to launch workshop crèche
One of the chief reasons cited by working mothers as barriers to continuing optimal care for their children has to return to work.
It is recommended that babies be breastfeed exclusively for the first six months followed by introduction of appropriate complementary feed, while continuing to breastfeed until two years of age and give appropriate care for proper growth and development.
Providing workplace crèche services would enable the mothers coming off maternity leave to spend more time with their children, giving them the opportunity to continue with optimal care and development for their children. The need to establish the crèche services for Ministry of Health is further enhanced with the government directives to provide enabling environments for working mothers to continue with childcare while at work.
Recognizing the importance and the benefits, Nutrition Program, Department of Public Health was tasked with establishing the workplace crèche for the health ministry.
The MoH workplace crèche was designed by Health Infrastructure Development Division, Department of Medical Supplies and Health Infrastructure while the construction was carried out by the public Health Engineering Division.
The infrastructure construction was constructed with financial support by the UNICEF amounting to one million and eighty four hundred thousand and the indoor and outdoor equipment and furnishings were supplied by WHO (support received in kind)
The workplace crèche will be manned by four staffs with include three caregivers and one supervisor. The staffs for the crèche are recruited through the Direct Employment Scheme under the Guaranteed Employ- ment Program of Ministry of Labour and Human Resources.
The crèche will accommodate services for a total of 15 children aged between 7 months to 3 years. The crèche will operate only during the official working days and follow the summer and winter timing of the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSE).
The health minister Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk will inaugurate the working crèche next Tuesday at the Health Ministry
