Letter of understanding (LOU) signed for assuring quality and safety of food and agriculture products
Aletter of understanding (LOU) was signed between the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests and DNV GL Business Assurance International with its HQ in Milan, Italy last Thursday. DNV GL is the prominent international certification body with the main expertise in technical assessment, advisory and risk analysis for quality and safety of products and services over a wide range of disciplines.
The main objective of signing LOU is to help strengthen the professional capacity of BAFRA; through knowledge sharing, training, assess- ments, certifications and developments in its core domains of“Biosecurity and Food Safety” to safeguard the farming system and protect consumers’ health. This Understanding signed would essentially help promote the Bhutanese Food Business Operators for implementation of ISO 22000:2005 – Food Safety Management System (FSMS) to assure the quality and safety of food and agriculture products for enhancing market access and trade facilitation.
The delegation also met Chencho Norbu, Secretary of National Environment Commission and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs)/Senior Managers of Hotels & Companies based in Phuentsholing, Thimphu and Paro. Later in the evening, the CEO of DNV GL awarded certificates to nine BAFRA officials who have successfully completed the ISO 22000:2005 – FSMS Lead AuditorCourse (IRCA approved) conducted from May 3 – 7, 2016.
The secretary of ministry of agriculture and forests Tenzin Dhendup graced the signing of the LOU.
