National Council discusses the BBIN agreement
The Legislative Committee of the National Council was convened to discuss the Motor Vehicle Agreement for the Regulation of Passenger, Personnel and Cargo Vehicular Traffic between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal with the members of the National Assembly last Tuesday.
The agreement was deliberated in the 6th session and ratified during the 7th Session of the National Assembly. The National Council upon receiving the agreement assigned it to the legislative committee during its 17th Session for further scrutiny before the next session.
During the meeting, the Chairperson of the Committee informed that the meeting was convened to understand the opinion and the principle on the ratifying the agreement by the National Assembly. He also said that the committee would also conduct similar consultative meetings with relevant agencies.
Later committee also conducted a meeting with Economic and Private Sector Development Committee of the National Assembly on the Customs Bill 2015.
The Customs Bills 2015 was introduced in the 6th Session and passed in the 7th session of the National Assembly. Subsequently, in the 17th Session of the National Council, the Legislative Committee was assigned to review the Bill.
The general overview was presented to the members on the Bill which included the background, rationale for an independent customs Bills 2015, major stakeholder consultation, salient features, key provisions & comparative overview, cross- cutting implication issues, financial implication and concluding remarks.
The members from the National Assembly also presented the amended sections of the Bill to the Committee.
