Continuing Medical Education and Clinical Counseling courses launched
ABachelor of Science programme on clinical counseling and continuing medical examination was launched at Faculty of Nursing and Public Health Centre in Thimphu by the health minister Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk last Monday.
Within the short span of time in the history of the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Science of Bhutan, the university have achieved a lot of thing and on that day and have marked the another landmark event by launching BSC in Clinical and Council Programme.
The university also launched the online CME programme developed by Faculty under the university support from Global Fund and also brought out the second issue of the Bhutan Health Journal. The university was able to manage, develop and launch this programme within a year with the help of friends like doctor Brain Price and Scot from the USA.
The programme is mainly to prepare counselors to know and recognize the impact of mental disorders not only for every individuals but community as a whole. It is also to know evidence of mental disorders, substance abuse, suicide incidents and accordingly to set up necessary interventions.
Since 1997 the Ministry of Health decided to unify the promotion of better health as an essential part promoting the health of Bhutanese citizens. Among many health facilities, the better health programme have successfully trained medical officers, nurses, health assistant and health workers in recognizing, diagnosing and prescribing drug for major categories of mental disorder and there was still many things to be done.
Among many trainees only six students have finished their first twelve months on foundation course on mental health with the faculty members. These trainees will now will be joining the three year programme at the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health centre in Thimphu.
Kheaser Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan launched Continuing Medical Education and Bachelor of Science in Clinical Counseling and released the 2nd Bhutan Health Journal by His Excellency Health Minister on 18th July, 2016 at Faculty of Nursing and Public Health Conference Hall.
