Pain is not bad, rather good
Suffering is not limited to a particular thing. People are likely to suffer from anything for suffering is natural.
That’s what the popular Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, an author and founder of ISHA Foundation and a spiritual master, said in a teaching he gave in Thimphu on 5 August.
ISHA Foundation is an international non-profit with over seven million volunteers across the world.
ISHA is an organization that addresses all aspects of human wellbeing and outreach initiatives such as Action for Rural Rejuvenation. Isha Vidhya and Project GreenHands exemplify the Foun- dation’s commitment towards true wellbeing for all.
Talking to hundreds of people gathered in the convention center in Thimphu, he delivered a talk on suffering.
He said that there is suffering if people are rich, there is suffering if they are educated, and suffering whether they have children or no children.
There are only two kinds of sufferings in human life; physical and mental. “Physical suffering is not a real suffering,” he said.
He also said that it is something in our body so call pain and pain is not a very bad thing. Rather, pain is good. He added that if there was no pain at all in our body, most people would not know how to even preserve their body.
He said, “If there is no pain in the name of fashion people would do anything on their body. So, pain is important till the people come to certain level of sense. Without pain people couldn’t keep the integrity of the body.”
According to him, transforming pain into suffering means, the pain that is happening in our body that takes into mind and multiple of thousands of times.
He said, “It is amazing that people live more than 50-60 years but still don’t know how to deal with their own thoughts.”
He emphasized the importance of self-control and its power to direct one’s life delivered in a simple and humorous way.
‘The Buddha within’ by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was organized by the Royal Institute for Governance and Strategic Studies.
