Bhutan and UNICEF to work to­gether on SDG

Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay met with Mr. Ru­dolf Sch­wenk last Mon­day. Wel­com­ing Mr. Ru­dolf to Bhutan, Ly­onch­hen con­grat­u­lated him on his ap­point­ment as the UNICEF Rep­re­sen­ta­tive for Bhutan and ex­pressed work­ing closely with him and UNICEF to­wards achiev­ing the 2030 Agenda for Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment and SDG Goals.

The new UNICEF Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to Bhutan Mr. Ru­dolf Sch­wenk pre­sented his cre­den­tials to the For­eign Min­is­ter, Ly­onpo Dam­cho Dorji, at a cer­e­mony con­ducted at the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs, Gya­ly­ong Tshogkhang on 4 Au­gust 2016.

Mr. Sch­wenk holds a Masters De­gree in Mod­ern Mid­dle East, Po­lit­i­cal Sci­ence and His­tory, Berlin Univer­sity, Ger­many. He has been part of the UN Sys­tems since 1995 and has been as­signed to work in Jor­dan and In­dia. Most re­cently, Mr. Sch­wenk has been serv­ing as the Chief of Pro­cure­ment Ser­vices for UNICEF in Den­mark.

Mr. Sch­wenk is a Ger­man na­tional. He suc­ceeds Ms. Sha­heen Nilofer. UNICEF Country Of­fice in Thim­phu was es­tab­lished on 17th March 1994. UNICEF in Bhutan fo­cuses on the ar­eas of health and ed­u­ca­tion.
