Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay met with Dr. Ryo Yuasa, Dr. Yo Yuasa and the ENT team from Japan last Wednesday.

Dr. Ryo Yuasa said that his ENT mission to Bhu- tan was inspired by His Majesty the King’s visit to Japan after the Fukushima tsunami.

Lyonchhen thanked Dr Yuasa and his team for drawing inspiration from our King and said that the team’s contributions are ‘huge since it touches lives of many people.’ Lyonchhen also thanked Dr. Yuasa for the generosity and expertise. In five different ear camps between April 2013 and February 2016 the team has treated 132 patients.

His Majesty the King visited Japan in March 2011 to pay respect to the victims and the people of Japan. Drawing inspiration and motivated to show appreciation for this gesture of solidarity from a tiny developing nation like Bhutan, Dr. Yuasa starts organizing a mission in Bhutan. 02/06/2012 Dr. Yuasa visited Bhutan informally and visited JDWNRH to find out the needs of the ENT department. The findings were that there were many patients suffering from chronic otitis media and the need for surgery was extensive. These findings were communicated to the Society for Promotion of International Oto-RhinoLarngology (SPIO). SPIO supports the initiative by contributing 460 thousands of Japanese Yen. The mission is divided into two main rounds i.e. 2013-2015 and 20162018. The first round has been completed and starting from the 22/09/2016-27/09/2016, the second mission of the second round will start.
