Bhutan to host 50th Asian Body­build­ing Cham­pi­onship 2016

Bhutan will host the 50th Asian Body Build­ing and Physique Sports Cham­pi­onship 2016, the big­gest re­gional event to be held in the country af­ter SAARC Cham­pi­onship in 2011.

The event will be held from 2 to 8 Septem­ber at Royal In­sti­tute of Man­age­ment, Thim­phu.

The na­tional body­build­ing coach, Sonam Dhendup, said the sec­re­tariat and the mem­bers of the Asian Body­build­ing and Physique Sports Fed­er­a­tion (ABBF) de­cided to come up with such an in­ter­na­tional event.

More than 450 in­ter­na­tional ath­letes and of­fi­cials from 28 Asian coun­tries will par­tic­i­pate in the event.

Among many coun­tries, In­dia has the max­i­mum num­ber of par­tic­i­pants at 72 fol­lowed by Thai­land with 44 par­tic­i­pants. The min­i­mum num­ber of par­tic­i­pants is 20.

A to­tal of 26 ath­letes, 19 men and seven women, will be tak­ing part in the com­pe­ti­tion from Bhutan.

Sonam Dhendup said all the par­tic­i­pants are ac­tively pre­par­ing for the up­com­ing event with sup­port from Bhutan Body­build­ing and Weightlift­ing Fed­er­a­tion that is pro­vid­ing the par­tic­i­pants with all the nec­es­sary equip­ment plus nu­tri­tious food.

“We are able to host this event with the sup­port from the Royal Gov­ern­ment of Bhutan, Bhutan Olympic Com­mit­tee and var­i­ous agen­cies,” he said. “Now al­most 90 per­cent of prepa­ra­tions are over and we are con­fi­dent that the event will be a suc­cess­ful one.”

All the of­fi­cials and par­tic­i­pants are ex­pected to ar­rive in Bhutan by 2 and 3 Septem­ber. On 4 Septem­ber they will hold ABBF An­nual Congress with all del­e­gates in Taj Ho­tel, then they will do weigh-in of all cat­e­gories and check­ing of age groups.

The fi­nals for Men’s BB55kg - 65kg (3 cat­e­gories), Women’s Fit­ness (2 cat­e­gories), Men’s Fit­ness (2 cat­e­gories), Masters (2 cat­e­gories) and ju­niors (2 cat­e­gories) will be com­pet­ing on 5 Septem­ber.

On 6 Septem­ber, the fi­nals for Men’s BB70kg - 80kg ( 3cat­e­gories), Women’s Ath­letic Physique ( 2 cat­e­gories), Men’s Ath­letic Physique ( 4 cat­e­gories), Women’s Body­build­ing ( 2 cat­e­gories) and Sports Physique ( 2 cat­e­gories) will be shown.

The event is an op­por­tu­nity for par­tic­i­pants to get ex­pe­ri­ence, and to share their knowl­edge of dif­fer­ent cul­tural val­ues with all the par­tic­i­pat­ing coun­tries.

It is ex­pected to en­ter­tain and in­cul­cate knowl­edge to all the peo­ple. The main event will be held from 5 to 7 Septem­ber.
