Bhutan to host 50th Asian Bodybuilding Championship 2016
Bhutan will host the 50th Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Championship 2016, the biggest regional event to be held in the country after SAARC Championship in 2011.
The event will be held from 2 to 8 September at Royal Institute of Management, Thimphu.
The national bodybuilding coach, Sonam Dhendup, said the secretariat and the members of the Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (ABBF) decided to come up with such an international event.
More than 450 international athletes and officials from 28 Asian countries will participate in the event.
Among many countries, India has the maximum number of participants at 72 followed by Thailand with 44 participants. The minimum number of participants is 20.
A total of 26 athletes, 19 men and seven women, will be taking part in the competition from Bhutan.
Sonam Dhendup said all the participants are actively preparing for the upcoming event with support from Bhutan Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation that is providing the participants with all the necessary equipment plus nutritious food.
“We are able to host this event with the support from the Royal Government of Bhutan, Bhutan Olympic Committee and various agencies,” he said. “Now almost 90 percent of preparations are over and we are confident that the event will be a successful one.”
All the officials and participants are expected to arrive in Bhutan by 2 and 3 September. On 4 September they will hold ABBF Annual Congress with all delegates in Taj Hotel, then they will do weigh-in of all categories and checking of age groups.
The finals for Men’s BB55kg - 65kg (3 categories), Women’s Fitness (2 categories), Men’s Fitness (2 categories), Masters (2 categories) and juniors (2 categories) will be competing on 5 September.
On 6 September, the finals for Men’s BB70kg - 80kg ( 3categories), Women’s Athletic Physique ( 2 categories), Men’s Athletic Physique ( 4 categories), Women’s Bodybuilding ( 2 categories) and Sports Physique ( 2 categories) will be shown.
The event is an opportunity for participants to get experience, and to share their knowledge of different cultural values with all the participating countries.
It is expected to entertain and inculcate knowledge to all the people. The main event will be held from 5 to 7 September.
