Bhutan at the 69th WHO regional session
The sixty-ninth session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee (RC) for southeast Asia will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 5 to 9 September 2016. The inaugural ceremony of the Regional Commit- tee will be held on Monday, 5 September 2016.
The Regional committee is an annual event and serves as the decision-making body of the World Health Organization at the regional level. It is attended by delegations from eleven member states of the WHO south East Asia Region.
A three member delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Health is attending Regional Committee.
This 69th Regional committee would deliberate on issues pertaining to non communicable diseases, sustainable development goals (SDGs) and universal health coverage (UHC) and antimicrobial resistance.
On the other had governance, management and administration issues like programme budgets, WHO reform process and status of the SEA Regional office Building will also be discussed.
A declaration on “strengthening health systems to accelerate delivery of NCD services at the primary health care level” would be deliberated upon. In addition, the resolutions on promoting physical activity in the south-East Asia Region and south East Region Health Emergency Fund will also be tabled.
