Bhutan at the 69th WHO re­gional ses­sion

The sixty-ninth ses­sion of the World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion (WHO) Re­gional Com­mit­tee (RC) for south­east Asia will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 5 to 9 Septem­ber 2016. The in­au­gu­ral cer­e­mony of the Re­gional Com­mit- tee will be held on Mon­day, 5 Septem­ber 2016.

The Re­gional com­mit­tee is an an­nual event and serves as the de­ci­sion-mak­ing body of the World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion at the re­gional level. It is at­tended by del­e­ga­tions from eleven mem­ber states of the WHO south East Asia Re­gion.

A three mem­ber del­e­ga­tion com­pris­ing se­nior of­fi­cials from the Min­istry of Health is at­tend­ing Re­gional Com­mit­tee.

This 69th Re­gional com­mit­tee would de­lib­er­ate on is­sues per­tain­ing to non com­mu­ni­ca­ble dis­eases, sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment goals (SDGs) and uni­ver­sal health cov­er­age (UHC) and an­timi­cro­bial re­sis­tance.

On the other had gov­er­nance, man­age­ment and ad­min­is­tra­tion is­sues like pro­gramme bud­gets, WHO re­form process and sta­tus of the SEA Re­gional of­fice Build­ing will also be dis­cussed.

A dec­la­ra­tion on “strength­en­ing health sys­tems to ac­cel­er­ate de­liv­ery of NCD ser­vices at the pri­mary health care level” would be de­lib­er­ated upon. In ad­di­tion, the res­o­lu­tions on pro­mot­ing phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity in the south-East Asia Re­gion and south East Re­gion Health Emer­gency Fund will also be tabled.
