Commemorating the move for health walk 2002
To commemorate the Move for Health Walk 2002 Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay , Speaker of National Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, Senior Government and Corporate Officials, students and general public gathered at the Clock Tower yesterday.
The first walk took place on 25th September to 10th October from Tashigang to Thimphu lead by the then Health Minister, Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup and raised almost USD 2 million.
The Move for Health Walk 2016 is being organised by Bhutan Health Trust Fund ( BHTF) to ensure sustainability of the fund. The objective of the fund is to sustain Primary Health Care (PHC) through continued and uninterrupted supply of essential drugs, vaccines, needles, syringes, cold chain equipment. To eliminate financial uncertainties for the core component of PHC and to provide quality mother and child health care services
Since its establishment
15 years ago, BHTF spent more than Nu.420 millions on Essential Drugs and Vaccines. In the financial year 2016-17, total of Nu. 236 millions have been allocated for the same.
This year, events like the marathon, blood donation camp, treatment corner and health exhibitions are being conducted. Lyonchhen awarded prizes to the winners of the mara- thon. The donors were also issued with certificate of appreciation by Health Minister Tandin Wangchuk .
The event is being conducted from 1st to 2nd October at the Clock Tower in Thimphu.
The BHTF was established with a Royal Charter issued on the 3rd August 2000 by His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo for the management of the Trust Fund investments and programme activities for the sustainability of primary health care services through the provision of continued and uninterrupted supply of core primary health care supplies of vaccines, essential drugs, needles, syringes, cold chain equipment, and other related drugs/equipment.
The proceeds of the Trust Fund shall be used for procurement of drugs from the essential drug list, procurement of assured quality vaccines for the National Immunization Programme, procurement of auto destruct syringes and safety disposal boxes and cold chain equipment to ensure safe injections, strengthen programme management and human resources develop through staff training in the storage and management of drugs and vac- cines, repairs and maintenance of the health equipment, develop and implement management plans for drugs and vaccines and strengthen monitoring capacity on the proper use of drugs and vaccines.
This year the theme of the walk is “Health is Wealth “and the collection of donation along with the health exhibition will continue today at the clock tower square.
