Com­mem­o­rat­ing the move for health walk 2002

To com­mem­o­rate the Move for Health Walk 2002 Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay , Speaker of Na­tional Assem­bly, Cabi­net Min­is­ters, Se­nior Gov­ern­ment and Cor­po­rate Of­fi­cials, stu­dents and gen­eral pub­lic gath­ered at the Clock Tower yes­ter­day.

The first walk took place on 25th Septem­ber to 10th Oc­to­ber from Tashigang to Thim­phu lead by the then Health Min­is­ter, Ly­onpo San­gay Ngedup and raised al­most USD 2 mil­lion.

The Move for Health Walk 2016 is be­ing or­gan­ised by Bhutan Health Trust Fund ( BHTF) to en­sure sus­tain­abil­ity of the fund. The ob­jec­tive of the fund is to sus­tain Pri­mary Health Care (PHC) through con­tin­ued and un­in­ter­rupted sup­ply of es­sen­tial drugs, vac­cines, nee­dles, syringes, cold chain equip­ment. To elim­i­nate fi­nan­cial un­cer­tain­ties for the core com­po­nent of PHC and to pro­vide qual­ity mother and child health care ser­vices

Since its es­tab­lish­ment

15 years ago, BHTF spent more than Nu.420 mil­lions on Es­sen­tial Drugs and Vac­cines. In the fi­nan­cial year 2016-17, to­tal of Nu. 236 mil­lions have been al­lo­cated for the same.

This year, events like the marathon, blood do­na­tion camp, treat­ment cor­ner and health ex­hi­bi­tions are be­ing con­ducted. Ly­onch­hen awarded prizes to the win­ners of the mara- thon. The donors were also is­sued with cer­tifi­cate of ap­pre­ci­a­tion by Health Min­is­ter Tandin Wangchuk .

The event is be­ing con­ducted from 1st to 2nd Oc­to­ber at the Clock Tower in Thim­phu.

The BHTF was es­tab­lished with a Royal Char­ter is­sued on the 3rd Au­gust 2000 by His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo for the man­age­ment of the Trust Fund in­vest­ments and pro­gramme ac­tiv­i­ties for the sus­tain­abil­ity of pri­mary health care ser­vices through the pro­vi­sion of con­tin­ued and un­in­ter­rupted sup­ply of core pri­mary health care sup­plies of vac­cines, es­sen­tial drugs, nee­dles, syringes, cold chain equip­ment, and other re­lated drugs/equip­ment.

The pro­ceeds of the Trust Fund shall be used for pro­cure­ment of drugs from the es­sen­tial drug list, pro­cure­ment of as­sured qual­ity vac­cines for the Na­tional Im­mu­niza­tion Pro­gramme, pro­cure­ment of auto de­struct syringes and safety dis­posal boxes and cold chain equip­ment to en­sure safe in­jec­tions, strengthen pro­gramme man­age­ment and hu­man re­sources de­velop through staff train­ing in the stor­age and man­age­ment of drugs and vac- cines, re­pairs and main­te­nance of the health equip­ment, de­velop and im­ple­ment man­age­ment plans for drugs and vac­cines and strengthen mon­i­tor­ing ca­pac­ity on the proper use of drugs and vac­cines.

This year the theme of the walk is “Health is Wealth “and the col­lec­tion of do­na­tion along with the health ex­hi­bi­tion will con­tinue to­day at the clock tower square.
