DPT in­tro­duces its North Thim­phu can­di­date

On 3rd Oc­to­ber, 2016 Druk Phuen­sum Tshogpa in­tro­duced Kezang Wangmo as the North-Thim­phu can­di­date for the up­com­ing by-elec­tion.

A 26years old Kezang Wangmo has been se­lected as North-Thim­phu can­di­date after Chen­cho Nidup, the for­mer can­di­date with­drew from con­test­ing for the by-elec­tion two weeks be­fore. Kezang Wangmo has a bach­e­lor de­gree in English and En­vi­ron­men­tal stud­ies from Royal Thim­phu Col­lege. After her grad­u­a­tion in 2013, she has been work­ing in a pri­vate firm in Nanglam. Her fa­ther is from Bumthang and mother is from Tashiyangtse.

Kezang Wangmo said, “It is my de­sire to serve Tsa Wa Sum,and I want to be­come a ex­am­ple for youths and women.” I am in­ter­ested in politics added Kezang Wangmo.

The op­po­si­tion leader (OL) Dr. Pema Gyamt­sho said that there are only few women in the par­lia­ment so, it is im­por­tant to give equal op­por­tu­nity to women. “She is bold and wise” added the OL. Cur­rently there is only four women rep- re­sen­ta­tive in Na­tional As­sem­bly, from which only one be­longs to Druk Phuen­sum Tshogpa.

Kezang Wangmo will be con­test­ing against Tsh­er­ing,a 33 years old can­di­date from Peo­ple’s Demo­cratic Party. The by-elec­tion for the North-Thim­phu con­stituency will be held on 4th of Novem­ber as per the an­nounce­ment made by Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of Bhutan dated 7th of Oc­to­ber 2016..

For the past two con­sec­u­tive years Druk Phuen­sum Tshogpa’s can­di­date has been win­ning from North-Thim­phu con­stituency .The party have full con­fi­dent to win and we have bet­ter can­di­date, said Dr. Pema Jamt­sho.

The North-Thim­phu Na­tional As­sem­bly Demkhong has been va­cant since 11th Au­gust 2016, after the res­ig­na­tion of the for­mer MP Kinga Tsh­er­ing to pur­sue his mas­ter de­gree.
