National Education Conference from tomorrow
The National Education Conference ( NEC) - “Education Matters: Towards Excellence” will be held from tomorrow till the 12th January 2017 at Phuentsholing. About 170 educators including DEOs, TEOs, principals, teachers, and officials from the Ministry, BCSEA, and REC will deliberate on issues and priority areas related to three pillars of education – school, curriculum, and teachers.
The conference will propose for establishment of specialized schools for science, sports, performing arts, humanities. Students who are gifted in each of the areas will study in these respective schools. Besides the regular curriculum, special thrust will be offered in areas of their special talents.
Further in view of the general need for improvement in English proficiency in our teachers, the conference will propose the next professional development to be English language proficiency improvement. Teachers will be engaged in improving English language through direct contact training followed by self- learning throughout the year. At a subsequent year teachers may be tested on the English language proficiency.
The conference will also discuss on value education to be introduced in curriculum. The conference will propose for development of value education curriculum especially at lower classes from PP- VI.
In order m to promote Dzongkha in our schools the conference proposes to adopt the recommendations such as Dzongkha to be main subject , students must mandatorily pass the Dzongkha subject at all levels, allocate separate Dzongkha teacher to teach Dzongkha in the lower classes instead of the general teachers teaching the Dzongkha subject, develop Dzongkha teaching- learning materials to be used in the schools, allocate more Dzongkha periods in classes PP to III and train Dzongkha teachers on latest teaching pedagogy amongst others.
