RMA to print uniquely designed Nu 100 commemorative banknotes
T he Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) will print one million 100 Ngultrum commemorative notes this year to commemorate the first birth anniversary of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck.
The design of the commemorative banknote was launched by the chairman of the Royal Privy Council, former minister Chenkyab Dorji, on HRH The Gyalsey’s first birth anniversary on 5 February.
The note will feature a combination of na- tional colours, yellow and orange, with the Fourth Druk Gyalpo as the water mark and portraits of His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Gylatsuen, and His Royal Highness The Gyalsey.
The governor of RMA, Dasho Penjore, said that the newly designed 100 note depicts the country riding on the dynamism of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and His Majesty the King and HRH The Gyalsey as the intaglio feature.
The reverse of the note has glacial lakes and mountains; natural features with a dragon super- imposed upon it. Governor said, “This depicts Bhutan’s endowments of the environment.”
Dasho Penjore said that there is a plan of designing commemorative notes in four series for different occasions of HRH The Gyalsay.
The second series of notes is expected to be printed when HRH The Gyalsey turns three or four with a change of portrait.
The third series will be printed when HRH The Gyalsey ascends the throne of Choetse Penlop and the final series would be printed for on The Gyalsey’s coronation as the Sixth Druk Gyalpo.
Dasho Penjore also said that the designing activity began in June 2016. The commemorative banknote is expected to be issued later this year.
RMA will print 1,000,000 pieces of the 100 denomination commemorative banknotes through Orell Fussli, a Swiss-based Printing Company.
Michael Nissen, an official from Orell Fussli, said that the printing would be completed by September this year.
The note bears the commemorative message “Commemorating the First Birth anniversary of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey”.
For the security of the note, several superior features like iridescent ink, spark truspin and many others are used.
The commemorative note is expected to have one of unique designs in the world.
For the commemoration of the HRH The Gyalsey’s first birth anniversary, RMA also initiated a blood donation campaign where more than fifty officials from financial institutions in the country and member of the public donated the blood.ss
