16th National Film Award to be held on 21 February
The 16th National Film Award will be held on 21 February coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty King.
Twenty-one films produced in 2016 will compete in 29 categories of awards. There are five nominees under each category.
Nominees for 27 categories have been revealed, while the nominees for the best director and best film will be declared only on the award day.
Chairman of Bhutan Film Association (BFA), Pema Rinzin, said, “We have withheld two nominees on the grounds that the excitement towards the show must be built up.”
Every nominee has been divided into minor and major categories. The best film of the year will be selected from the major category.
The movies certified by Bhutan InfoCom and Media Authority (BICMA) from 1 January to 31 De- cember 2016 are eligible to participate in the award.
Movies that have been certified by BICMA but not yet released can also take part in the event. This year, there are some five such movies in the com- petition.
The chairman of the jury, Dasho Ugyen Tshering, said participation is open to all. No film is barred and it is about the confidence of the producers and directors to participate in it, he added.
A jury comprising 10 members reviewed the 21 films. The jury was divided into three working committees assessing direction and performance, culture, youth and education, technical aspects.
This time, the jury will deduct 15 percent from the screenplay marks from the films based on books or ancient folks
Bhutan National Film Award is an annual event for BFA since it started in 2001, and this year it will be organized by Woezer Events.
