Federal Minister for Environment of Germany visits Bhutan
Her Excellency Dr. Barbara Anne Hendricks, Federal Minister for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety of Germany and her delegation called on the minister for agriculture and forests on April 5. During the meeting, the Department of Forests and Park Services made presentation on the centre for Tiger and Cat Research and Jhomotsangkha Wildlife Sanctuary.
On April 6, the delegation accompanied by the Agriculture Minister and officials from the Min- istry of Foreign Affairs, National Environment Commission, World Wildlife Fund- Bhutan Program and Bhutan Trust Fund planted some 130 saplings comprising of the national tree cypress, cherry tree, oak and dogwood at Kuenselphodrang as a symbol of BhutanGerman friendship. They also took a hike from Kuenselphodrang to Changangkha Lhakhang.
During her stay the minister also met with the Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang last Thursday.
Dr. Hendricks commended Bhutan on the developmental philosophy of Gross National Happiness and said that Germany looks at Bhutan because of the GNH philosophy.
Lyonchhen thanked Dr. Hendricks for visiting Bhutan and for Germany’s efforts in ecological endeavors.
Dr. Hendricks and her delegation visit places including the Royal Botanical Garden at Lampelri, White Bellied Heron at Phochhu at Khawajara, Rimchu Park Range in Jigme Dorji National Park and Mitsichen riverside among others.
The Secretary of the ministry of Agriculture and Forests will see off the delegation today.
