Fed­eral Min­is­ter for En­vi­ron­ment of Ger­many vis­its Bhutan

Her Ex­cel­lency Dr. Bar­bara Anne Hen­dricks, Fed­eral Min­is­ter for En­vi­ron­ment, Na­ture Con­ser­va­tion, Build­ing and Nu­clear Safety of Ger­many and her del­e­ga­tion called on the min­is­ter for agri­cul­ture and forests on April 5. Dur­ing the meet­ing, the Depart­ment of Forests and Park Ser­vices made pre­sen­ta­tion on the cen­tre for Tiger and Cat Re­search and Jho­mot­sangkha Wildlife Sanc­tu­ary.

On April 6, the del­e­ga­tion ac­com­pa­nied by the Agri­cul­ture Min­is­ter and of­fi­cials from the Min- istry of For­eign Af­fairs, Na­tional En­vi­ron­ment Com­mis­sion, World Wildlife Fund- Bhutan Pro­gram and Bhutan Trust Fund planted some 130 saplings com­pris­ing of the na­tional tree cypress, cherry tree, oak and dog­wood at Kuenselpho­drang as a sym­bol of BhutanGer­man friend­ship. They also took a hike from Kuenselpho­drang to Changangkha Lhakhang.

Dur­ing her stay the min­is­ter also met with the Ly­onch­hen Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay at the Gya­ly­ong Tshogkhang last Thurs­day.

Dr. Hen­dricks com­mended Bhutan on the de­vel­op­men­tal phi­los­o­phy of Gross Na­tional Hap­pi­ness and said that Ger­many looks at Bhutan be­cause of the GNH phi­los­o­phy.

Ly­onch­hen thanked Dr. Hen­dricks for vis­it­ing Bhutan and for Ger­many’s ef­forts in eco­log­i­cal en­deav­ors.

Dr. Hen­dricks and her del­e­ga­tion visit places in­clud­ing the Royal Botan­i­cal Gar­den at Lam­pelri, White Bel­lied Heron at Phochhu at Khawa­jara, Rim­chu Park Range in Jigme Dorji Na­tional Park and Mit­sichen river­side among oth­ers.

The Sec­re­tary of the min­istry of Agri­cul­ture and Forests will see off the del­e­ga­tion to­day.
