Recently Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party’s (BKP) former President Sonam Tobgay handed over the new party president ship to the former chairperson of the Anti-corruption Commission Dasho Neten Zangmo, Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) says that the election of party president is against the political party rules of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2015.

Gaseb Kinley Wangchuk who is a member of DNT from Athang-Thetsho constituency says that the election of party president is against the law of election commission of Bhutan.

He read out the Political party’s rule of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2015 during the Bhutan Press club last Wednesday organized by Journalist Association of Bhutan. He read out the section 7.5 of the article 4 that “A political Party shall submit to the Commission, the results of the intra-party election, with details of the total number of the votes cast and the number of votes secured by each contestant for all of its party office-bearers, and a copy of the party’s notifications declaring the results of the election.”

He said that “It clearly says that there should be some procedures, if other ways, if she believes to be a very strong and at the very first entrance break- ing the rules, he said that he don’t see that she can be a party president.”

DNT Party President Dr. Tandin said that it is good to know that Dasho Neten had joined the political party because to strengthen the democracy we need people to join in the politics.

The president added that we DNT no were feel threaten because DNT has contested in last election against two strong political and gained 70 percent of national votes and following that we continue to improve.

“Even for the last two elections, although former Prime Minister Jigme Y Thinley single handedly won the election for Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), but would we believe that it was a Lyonchhen Dasho Tshering Tobgay who took People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to power, no way,” said the DNT president.

The president added that one person derive politics and said that in their opinion will not win the election. “I think what win the election is in the time years to come which actually should form the bases of democracy is a team of very good individual each well representing constituency.”

The member of DNT Tenzin Lekphell said that every political party will have their own directions and strategies “We have to respect to their strategies and directions,” but choosing Dasho Neten as BKP president is there ways of entering into the political system.

He added that party is not based on one figure, but the DNT party is trying to build a team that can take the responsibility. “But in terms of leader, there has to be taking of convection and president will be nominated and then based on that party will take out the leader.”

Meanwhile, the DNT party manager, Phurba said that to be a party leader, no one is allowed to register directly as leader rather they have to first register as member then only will be a party president through convection.
