CDCL in­au­gu­rates the tun­nel­ing work of NHP

Ly­onch­hen (Dasho) Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay graced the in­au­gu­ral of the blast for the con­struc­tion of head race tun­nel (HRT) and Adit by the Con­struc­tion De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion Lim­ited (CDCL) for the Nikachu Hy­dro­elec­tric Project, Tangsi­bji, Trongsa last Fri­day. Phuntsho Gyelt­shen, CEO of CDCL in his open­ing re­marks said that it is a mo­ment of pride for Bhutanese and the Bhutanese con­struc­tion com­mu­nity for un­der­tak­ing an im­por­tant project which will be marked as mile­stones in CDCL’s 6 year time. CDCL is un­der­tak­ing the sub-con­tract for the con­struc­tion of 3kms of HRT in Nikachu HEP. Ly­onch­hen re­minded the gath­er­ing of His Majesty the King’s say that Bhutanese are ca­pa­ble and that the only chal­lenge re­mains in whether we do it or not. Ly­onch­hen thanked the gath­er­ing and added that around 90kms of HRT has been con­structed so far since the Chukha HYP in 1978. ‘And to­day after 39 years it is a mo­ment of pride for us’. Head­race tun­nel takes wa­ter from con­nect­ing chan­nels and con­vey it to the fore bay or di­rectly to the pen­stock pro­vided with surge shaft” de­pend­ing upon the project and site re­quire­ments some times also known as power tun­nels. The 118MW Nikachhu hy­dro­elec­tric project is the first project for which Druk Green not only pre­pared the fea­si­bil­ity re­port but also un­der­took the de­tailed project re­port prepa­ra­tions. The Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter, Chair­man of Druk Green Power Cor­po­ra­tion, Sec­re­tary of Eco­nomic Af­fairs Min­istry, Dzongkhag and CDCL of­fi­cials at­tended the in­au­gu­ral.
