CDCL inaugurates the tunneling work of NHP
Lyonchhen (Dasho) Tshering Tobgay graced the inaugural of the blast for the construction of head race tunnel (HRT) and Adit by the Construction Development Corporation Limited (CDCL) for the Nikachu Hydroelectric Project, Tangsibji, Trongsa last Friday. Phuntsho Gyeltshen, CEO of CDCL in his opening remarks said that it is a moment of pride for Bhutanese and the Bhutanese construction community for undertaking an important project which will be marked as milestones in CDCL’s 6 year time. CDCL is undertaking the sub-contract for the construction of 3kms of HRT in Nikachu HEP. Lyonchhen reminded the gathering of His Majesty the King’s say that Bhutanese are capable and that the only challenge remains in whether we do it or not. Lyonchhen thanked the gathering and added that around 90kms of HRT has been constructed so far since the Chukha HYP in 1978. ‘And today after 39 years it is a moment of pride for us’. Headrace tunnel takes water from connecting channels and convey it to the fore bay or directly to the penstock provided with surge shaft” depending upon the project and site requirements some times also known as power tunnels. The 118MW Nikachhu hydroelectric project is the first project for which Druk Green not only prepared the feasibility report but also undertook the detailed project report preparations. The Education Minister, Chairman of Druk Green Power Corporation, Secretary of Economic Affairs Ministry, Dzongkhag and CDCL officials attended the inaugural.
