New Director General of border roads visits Bhutan
The New Director General Boarder Roads (DGBR), Lieutenant General SK Shrivastava will be making his maiden official visit to Royal Kingdom of Bhutan from 11 Jun to 17 Jun to review the works under taken by Project Dantak.
The General Officer got commissioned into the elite “Bengal Sappers” of the Corps of Engineers in 1980 after passing out from IMA Dehradun. He has graduated from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and had the privilege of attending all the important courses like the Higher Command and The National Defence College course.
In his illustrious career, the General Officer has held important Command, Instructional and Staff appointments. In addition to Commanding an Engineer Regiment during “OPERATION PARAKRAM”, he has also commanded an Engineer Brigade. He has been the Directing Staff and Advisor at Defence Services Command & Staff College in Lusaka, Zambia and also had two tenures in the Military Secretary Branch. As Maj General, he was Chief Engineer of the Northern Command and before picking up his Lt General Rank he was Director General (Combat Engineers) at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army).
The General Officer is known in the Corps of Engineers for his utmost professionalism as a result of which he was handpicked for this challenging and most demanding appointment of DGBR having 18 Projects under him committed for the road and infrastructure development in the border areas of the Northern and Eastern India. Project Dantak is doing the similar work in Bhutan. He is an avid reader and well travelled officer having visited more than 24 different countries.
The DGBR will be accompanied by Mrs. Kavita Shrivasatava, President BROWWA (Border Roads Wives Welfare Organisation). She is a Post Graduate in Entomology and has been an academician in her professional Career. In addition, she has acquired additional qualification in Yoga, Sujok, Physical Training and Painting. She has been actively involved in various AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association) activities. She is a proud recipient of the ‘Teachers Award’ for her relentless contribution in the academic filed.
As President BROWWA she has made a resolve to address and make necessary changes in the field of Women Empowerment and Higher education.
The couple is blessed with two daughters Shreyasi and Karishma, who are excelling in their chosen fields.
The General Officer during his visit will have an audience with His Majesty, The King of Bhutan and His Majesty, The Fourth King, as well as will call on Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan and prominent dignitaries of RGoB.
During his visit the General Officer will inspect various road sectors including DamchuChukha, Damchu-Haa link Road. In subsequent part he will visit Eastern Sector and will specially review the road works along Trashigang-Yadi Road which is part of the prestigious East-West highway.
The proposed visit of Director General Border Roads has generated lot of hope amongst the people of Bhutan who are eagerly awaiting the much needed impetus to the connectivity of its major road sectors and a resultant boost to the economy. Project Dantak is all geared up to incorporate the new DGBR’s vision into practice in their work so as to bring about quantitative and qualitative change in road infrastructure sector of Bhutan.
