New Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of bor­der roads vis­its Bhutan

The New Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Boarder Roads (DGBR), Lieu­tenant Gen­eral SK Shri­vas­tava will be mak­ing his maiden of­fi­cial visit to Royal King­dom of Bhutan from 11 Jun to 17 Jun to re­view the works un­der taken by Project Dan­tak.

The Gen­eral Of­fi­cer got com­mis­sioned into the elite “Ben­gal Sap­pers” of the Corps of En­gi­neers in 1980 after pass­ing out from IMA Dehradun. He has grad­u­ated from De­fence Ser­vices Staff Col­lege, Wellington and had the priv­i­lege of at­tend­ing all the im­por­tant cour­ses like the Higher Com­mand and The Na­tional De­fence Col­lege course.

In his il­lus­tri­ous ca­reer, the Gen­eral Of­fi­cer has held im­por­tant Com­mand, In­struc­tional and Staff ap­point­ments. In ad­di­tion to Com­mand­ing an En­gi­neer Reg­i­ment dur­ing “OP­ER­A­TION PARAKRAM”, he has also com­manded an En­gi­neer Bri­gade. He has been the Di­rect­ing Staff and Ad­vi­sor at De­fence Ser­vices Com­mand & Staff Col­lege in Lusaka, Zam­bia and also had two tenures in the Mil­i­tary Sec­re­tary Branch. As Maj Gen­eral, he was Chief En­gi­neer of the North­ern Com­mand and be­fore pick­ing up his Lt Gen­eral Rank he was Di­rec­tor Gen­eral (Com­bat En­gi­neers) at In­te­grated Head­quar­ters of Min­istry of De­fence (Army).

The Gen­eral Of­fi­cer is known in the Corps of En­gi­neers for his ut­most pro­fes­sion­al­ism as a re­sult of which he was hand­picked for this chal­leng­ing and most de­mand­ing ap­point­ment of DGBR hav­ing 18 Projects un­der him com­mit­ted for the road and in­fra­struc­ture de­vel­op­ment in the bor­der ar­eas of the North­ern and East­ern In­dia. Project Dan­tak is do­ing the sim­i­lar work in Bhutan. He is an avid reader and well trav­elled of­fi­cer hav­ing vis­ited more than 24 dif­fer­ent coun­tries.

The DGBR will be ac­com­pa­nied by Mrs. Kavita Shri­vasa­tava, Pres­i­dent BROWWA (Bor­der Roads Wives Wel­fare Or­gan­i­sa­tion). She is a Post Grad­u­ate in En­to­mol­ogy and has been an aca­demi­cian in her pro­fes­sional Ca­reer. In ad­di­tion, she has ac­quired ad­di­tional qual­i­fi­ca­tion in Yoga, Su­jok, Phys­i­cal Train­ing and Paint­ing. She has been ac­tively in­volved in var­i­ous AWWA (Army Wives Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion) ac­tiv­i­ties. She is a proud re­cip­i­ent of the ‘Teach­ers Award’ for her re­lent­less con­tri­bu­tion in the aca­demic filed.

As Pres­i­dent BROWWA she has made a re­solve to ad­dress and make nec­es­sary changes in the field of Women Em­pow­er­ment and Higher ed­u­ca­tion.

The cou­ple is blessed with two daugh­ters Shreyasi and Kar­ishma, who are ex­celling in their cho­sen fields.

The Gen­eral Of­fi­cer dur­ing his visit will have an au­di­ence with His Majesty, The King of Bhutan and His Majesty, The Fourth King, as well as will call on Hon’ble Prime Min­is­ter of Bhutan and prom­i­nent dig­ni­taries of RGoB.

Dur­ing his visit the Gen­eral Of­fi­cer will in­spect var­i­ous road sec­tors in­clud­ing Dam­chuChukha, Dam­chu-Haa link Road. In sub­se­quent part he will visit East­ern Sec­tor and will spe­cially re­view the road works along Trashigang-Yadi Road which is part of the pres­ti­gious East-West high­way.

The pro­posed visit of Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Bor­der Roads has gen­er­ated lot of hope amongst the peo­ple of Bhutan who are ea­gerly await­ing the much needed im­pe­tus to the con­nec­tiv­ity of its ma­jor road sec­tors and a re­sul­tant boost to the econ­omy. Project Dan­tak is all geared up to in­cor­po­rate the new DGBR’s vi­sion into prac­tice in their work so as to bring about quan­ti­ta­tive and qual­i­ta­tive change in road in­fra­struc­ture sec­tor of Bhutan.
