Strength­en­ing Lo­cal Govern­ment through de­cen­tral­iza­tion

The Agri­cul­ture Min­is­ter, Yeshey Droji handed over 20 ex­ca­va­tors and 20 back­hoes to the Dzong­das of 20 Dzongkhangs in the pres­ence of the Prime Min­is­ter, Dasho Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay at Bumthang, last Wed­nes­day.

Thank­ing the Govern­ment and peo­ple of Ja­pan for fi­nanc­ing the equip­ment, Ly­onch­hen said that this would go a long way to­wards de­vel­op­ing our ru­ral vil­lages.

Speak­ing to the Dzong­das, Chair­per­sons of Lo­cal Govern­ment and Agri­cul­ture Of­fi­cers from the 20 Dzongkhags, Ly­onch­hen shared that these heavy ma­chiner­ies will em­power the lo­cal govern­ment to build and main­tain farms roads apart from be­ing able to use them to re­spond dur­ing dis­as­ters, held framers de­velop farm lands, build and main­tain ir­ri­ga­tion chan­nels.

Ly­onch­hen also urged the Dzong­das to en­sure proper and reg­u­lar main­te­nance of the ma­chines and said that a term of use for the ma­chines will be pro­vided so that the ma­chines are put to good use.

A trained op­er­a­tor each would be de­ployed to the Dzongkhangs to op­er­ate the ma­chines.
