The Foreign Relations Committee of National Council met with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by the Secretary last Friday. The meeting was convened to discuss the multilateral agreement for the establishment of an International Think Tank for the landlocked developing countries.

In a detailed presentation of the agreement in keeping with the rule of procedure for ratification of international agreements, the Committee was briefed on the background and content of the instrument. The instrument is an effort, spearheaded by the Mongolian government for a forum for Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) that lack territorial access to sea, to come together, share knowledge for addressing common challenges. The International Think Tank would help enhance the ability of LLDCs to benefit from international trade with the ultimate aim of raising human development and poverty reduction. Ten countries have already ratified/ acceded/ approved the Agreement, fulfilling the minimum threshold number to come into effect and would be operational by October 6, 2017.

The Chairperson of the Foreign Relations Committee Kaka Tshering thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and concluded the meeting.
