Gyalpozhing Col­lege of In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy (GCIT) for­mally in­au­gu­rated

With the vi­sion to be the ‘cen­ter of Ex­cel­lence in in­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy steeped in GNH val­ues’, the Gyalpozhing Col­lege of In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy (GCIT) was for­mally in­au­gu­rated on Fri­day. Yet an­other mile­stone in the ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor has been achieved.

Dasho Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay, Ly­onch­hen in­au­gu­rated the Col­lege. Sonam Wangchuk, Na­tional Coun­cil Mem­ber from Mon­gar; Nidup Dorji, Vice Chan­cel­lor of the Royal Univer­sity of Bhutan; and Lhatu Jamba, Pres­i­dent of GCIT in­au­gu­rated the Col­lege were also present for the in­au­gu­ral. Dzong­das from Mon­gar and Lhuntse and other Dzongkhag of­fi­cials were also present for the event.

GCIT took in the first batch of stu­dents early this year and started the classes from 12th July, 2017 with 79 stu­dents pur­su­ing Bach­e­lors in Com­puter Ap­pli­ca­tion.

Ly­onch­hen said that a seed had been sown as GCIT and that it will ben­e­fit the stu­dents and the coun­try a lot. Ly­onch­hen spoke on the essence of IT in the world to­day. IT, he said is evolv­ing and will con­tinue to grow with its essence felt strongly in the world. He added that the stu­dents in GCIT will be ‘Learn­ing by do­ing’ and ex­plained that the stu­dents will not only study but prac­ti­cally develop skills. Ly­onch­hen added that in this ever evolv­ing world, IT is an equal­izer.

Ly­onch­hen con­cluded by wish­ing the stu­dents well and urged the tu­tors to pro­vide the best ed­u­ca­tion pos­si­ble.

Ly­onch­hen also in­au­gu­rated Yoezer home­made food prod­ucts stall in the Col­lege which aims to cater home­made lo­cal prod­ucts to the stu­dents and fac­ulty to re­duce con­sump­tion of junk food.
