ICT conference to discuss the issues and challenges within ICT professional
To provide the platform for discussion for the issues and challenges between the ICT professionals, information and communication technology (ICT) conference was held last Monday in the capital.
It was organized by The Department of Information Technology and Telecom under the Ministry of Information and Communications with the theme “Digital Inclusive Bhutan.”
The minister for information and communications, Lyonpo DN Dhungyel said that “ICT has been identified as the tools that guide the destiny of our nation, that guides the development of the nation and that gives inventors to render services to the people.
Lyonpo added that the conference was to thank all ICT officers for working very hard and working together to break ICT scenario in Bhutan as to where is it today.”
Lyonpo said that the ICT is not a choice anymore, it is the part of a life and it is in fact compulsion that each and every one of us, each and every citizen of our country should be good in ICT so that we can leverage on it.
The important milestone from 11th FYP were also highlighted which includes the establishment of the Government Data Centre that hosts important Government Systems, the extension of Government Network to more than 190 gewogs, launching of the Bhutan Computer Incident Response (BtCIRT) team, establishing e-Payment gateway, adoption of the Google Apps suit by civil servants.
It had also provided employment to more than 800 youths at Thimphu Tech Park limited.
Today ICT officers have developed eight innovative applications to ease out the work for the people and the user, and also improved overall standard of website from 54 percent to 61 percent.
The theme of the event ‘Digital Inclusive Bhutan- looking ahead to the 12th FYP’ highlighted the need to improve on accessibility, adoption and application of ICT in the country.
The 12 Five Fear Plan has prioritized on these aspects for Bhutan to bridge digital divide, take advantage Technology, use e-commerce for trading, and use technology for job creation and service delivery.
In keeping with the theme of the event, the focus on the event was agreeing on the draft plans and programs for the 12th FYP that will guide the course of ICT development over the course of next five years.
Meanwhile, the event was attended by more than 100 ICT professionals from all over the Bhutan representing from ministries, agencies, Dzonkhags and Thromdes.
