ICT con­fer­ence to dis­cuss the is­sues and chal­lenges within ICT pro­fes­sional

To pro­vide the plat­form for dis­cus­sion for the is­sues and chal­lenges be­tween the ICT pro­fes­sion­als, in­for­ma­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion tech­nol­ogy (ICT) con­fer­ence was held last Mon­day in the cap­i­tal.

It was or­ga­nized by The De­part­ment of In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy and Tele­com un­der the Min­istry of In­for­ma­tion and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions with the theme “Digital In­clu­sive Bhutan.”

The min­is­ter for in­for­ma­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tions, Ly­onpo DN Dhungyel said that “ICT has been iden­ti­fied as the tools that guide the destiny of our na­tion, that guides the de­vel­op­ment of the na­tion and that gives in­ven­tors to ren­der ser­vices to the peo­ple.

Ly­onpo added that the con­fer­ence was to thank all ICT of­fi­cers for work­ing very hard and work­ing to­gether to break ICT sce­nario in Bhutan as to where is it to­day.”

Ly­onpo said that the ICT is not a choice any­more, it is the part of a life and it is in fact com­pul­sion that each and ev­ery one of us, each and ev­ery cit­i­zen of our coun­try should be good in ICT so that we can lever­age on it.

The im­por­tant mile­stone from 11th FYP were also high­lighted which in­cludes the es­tab­lish­ment of the Gov­ern­ment Data Cen­tre that hosts im­por­tant Gov­ern­ment Sys­tems, the ex­ten­sion of Gov­ern­ment Net­work to more than 190 gewogs, launch­ing of the Bhutan Com­puter In­ci­dent Re­sponse (BtCIRT) team, es­tab­lish­ing e-Pay­ment gate­way, adop­tion of the Google Apps suit by civil ser­vants.

It had also pro­vided em­ploy­ment to more than 800 youths at Thim­phu Tech Park lim­ited.

To­day ICT of­fi­cers have de­vel­oped eight in­no­va­tive ap­pli­ca­tions to ease out the work for the peo­ple and the user, and also im­proved over­all stan­dard of web­site from 54 per­cent to 61 per­cent.

The theme of the event ‘Digital In­clu­sive Bhutan- look­ing ahead to the 12th FYP’ high­lighted the need to im­prove on ac­ces­si­bil­ity, adop­tion and ap­pli­ca­tion of ICT in the coun­try.

The 12 Five Fear Plan has pri­or­i­tized on these as­pects for Bhutan to bridge digital di­vide, take ad­van­tage Tech­nol­ogy, use e-com­merce for trad­ing, and use tech­nol­ogy for job cre­ation and ser­vice de­liv­ery.

In keep­ing with the theme of the event, the fo­cus on the event was agree­ing on the draft plans and pro­grams for the 12th FYP that will guide the course of ICT de­vel­op­ment over the course of next five years.

Mean­while, the event was at­tended by more than 100 ICT pro­fes­sion­als from all over the Bhutan rep­re­sent­ing from min­istries, agen­cies, Dzonkhags and Thromdes.
