Ly­onch­hen in­au­gu­rates 400-KV GIS in Jig­mel­ing

Dasho Tsh­er­ing Tob­gay, Ly­onch­hen in­au­gu­rated the 400-KV GIS (com­pact Gas-In­su­lated Sub­sta­tion) Sub-sta­tion at Jig­mel­ing, Gele­phu yes­ter­day.

At­tend­ing the pro­gram, Ly­onch­hen con­grat­u­lated the Bhutan Power Cor­po­ra­tion (BPC) team for the suc­cess­ful launch of the GIS and for be­ing awarded the ISO 9000, ISO 14000, cer­tifi­cate coin­ci­den­tally on 29th De­cem­ber, 2017. He added that BPC must also be a GNH cer­ti­fied agency given its work car­ried out for the ben­e­fit of the pub­lic.

Ly­onch­hen said that the tale of hy­dro power in Bhutan started with Chukha Hy­dro Power Cor­po­ra­tion which started un­der the guid­ance of His Majesty The Fourth King. He added that un­der the guid­ance of Their Majesties, the coun­try has in­vested in hy­dropower sec­tion and to­day gen­er­ates a to­tal of about 1485MW of elec­tric­ity. He said that elec­tric­ity is im­por­tant from as sim­ple as charg­ing your mo­bile phones to nor­mal­iz­ing the tem­per­a­ture be it cold or hot to boom the econ­omy of the coun­try.

Ly­onch­hen also spoke on the dif­fi­cult work that the Bhutan Power Cor­po­ra­tion un­der­takes. He ex­em­pli­fied that to im­prove the liveli­hoods of the peo­ple; BPC elec­tri­fies ru­ral house­holds which is dif­fi­cult in Bhutan given our ge­o­graph­i­cal ter­rain. He con­grat­u­lated the 60 tech­ni­cians and line­men from 6 re­gions who were present in Jig­mel­ing, rec­og­nized for their hard-work and ded­i­ca­tion.

The Chief Jus­tice Ly­onpo Tsh­er­ing Wangchuk and Ly­onpo Lekey Dorji, Min­is­ter for Eco­nomic Af­fairs who at­tended the cer­e­mony awarded cer­tifi­cates to the con­sul­tants and other par­tic­i­pants for their ef­fort in the suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of the pro­ject.
