Lyonchhen inaugurates 400-KV GIS in Jigmeling
Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Lyonchhen inaugurated the 400-KV GIS (compact Gas-Insulated Substation) Sub-station at Jigmeling, Gelephu yesterday.
Attending the program, Lyonchhen congratulated the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) team for the successful launch of the GIS and for being awarded the ISO 9000, ISO 14000, certificate coincidentally on 29th December, 2017. He added that BPC must also be a GNH certified agency given its work carried out for the benefit of the public.
Lyonchhen said that the tale of hydro power in Bhutan started with Chukha Hydro Power Corporation which started under the guidance of His Majesty The Fourth King. He added that under the guidance of Their Majesties, the country has invested in hydropower section and today generates a total of about 1485MW of electricity. He said that electricity is important from as simple as charging your mobile phones to normalizing the temperature be it cold or hot to boom the economy of the country.
Lyonchhen also spoke on the difficult work that the Bhutan Power Corporation undertakes. He exemplified that to improve the livelihoods of the people; BPC electrifies rural households which is difficult in Bhutan given our geographical terrain. He congratulated the 60 technicians and linemen from 6 regions who were present in Jigmeling, recognized for their hard-work and dedication.
The Chief Justice Lyonpo Tshering Wangchuk and Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Minister for Economic Affairs who attended the ceremony awarded certificates to the consultants and other participants for their effort in the successful completion of the project.
