Two formers Dzongdags and a former parliamentarian join PDP
The People’s Democratic Party ( PDP) has roped in two former Dzongdags and former National Council member to contest the 2018 parliamentary elections.
The former Dzongdag of Trongsa, Sonam Rinchen, will contest from Chhumig – Ura constituency in Bumthang while the former Dzongdag of Zhemgang Dzongkhag, Harka Singh Tamang, will contest from Gelephu constituency in Sarpang. The former National Council member, Kamal Bahadur Gurung, is the party’s new candidate from Kilkhorthang – Mendelgang constituency in Tsirang.
All the three candidates have vast experience having served long years in the civil service, holding important leadership positions. Their experience, qualifications, and leadership abilities have further added value to the party’s already talented pool of candidates for 2018 elections.
Having served as Dzongdags both Sonam Rinchen and Harka Singh Tamang have gained the trust and confidence of the people as capable administration leadership. They also have, to their credit, the experience and credentials of having closely worked with central government, the local government, the local government and the grassroots community.
The former Member of Parliament, Kamal Bahadur Gurung, has the much- needed experience as a legislator having represented the people of Tsirang in the National Council from 2013 to 2018.
The PDP believes that strong and dynamic leaders are not only necessary but also vital in the democratic process. And to this end, the party has made conscientious efforts in picking the most capable candidates so that the people of Bhutan have a diversity of leaders to choose from.
All the three candidates begin a new chapter in their career, the PDP is confident that they will continue to contribute to the process of national building and strengthening of our democracy.
Former Dzongdag for Chhumig – Ura constituency, Bumthang
The former Dzongdag of Trongsa Dzongkhag, Sonam Rinchen, 59, is PDP’s new candidate from Chhumig – Ura constituency in Bumthang Dzongkhag.
In a career spanning 33 years in civil service, Sonam Rinchen has served in several leadership positions. He served as Assistance Director, Under Secretary and Deputy Director of Royal Civil Service Commission. He also served as Deputy Secretary of Policy and Planning Division, Ministry of Works and Human Settlement. He was also the director of Department of human Resources and Director of Department of Occupational Standards Ministry of Labor and Human Resources before serving as the Dzongdag.
He has a Masters in Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University, USA.
Former Dzongdag for Gelephu constituency, Sarpang
The former Zhemgang Dzongdag, Harka Singh Tamang, 58, is PDP’s new candidate from Gelephu constituency in Sarpang Dzongkhag.
He served in the civil service for 34 years, starting as a trainee in the erstwhile Planning Commission and resigning as the Dzongdag of Zhemgang. During his long career in the civil service, Harka Shing Tamang also served as Zonal Planning Officer , Under Secretary, Deputy Director and Joint Director of Road Safety and Transport Authority. He also served as the Executive Secretary of Gelephu Thromde.
Harka Singh Tamang has Bachelor of Arts ( Hons) in Urban Geography from DAV College, Chandigarh, India.
Former MP for Kilkhorthang – Mendrelgang constituency, Tsirang
The former National Council Member, Kamal Bahadur Gurung, 51, is PDP’s new candidate from Kilkhorthang – Mendrelgang constituency in Tsirang Dzongkhag.
He served as the Member of Parliament in the National Coun- cil from 2013 to 2018. Before that, he served in the civil service and the corporate sector for 24 years. He served as computer Programmer, Executive Engineer and Manager in Department of Power and as Engineer and Manager in Bhutan Power Corporation Limited ( BPCL). He also served as Senior Project Manager of Rural Electrification Project, BPCL.
As Member of Parliament, Kamal Bahadur Gurung Served as Deputy Chairman of Good Governance Committee, Member of Special Committee for review of Hydropower Policy and Strategies and Member of Joint Parliamentary Committee for amendment of Local government Act among others.
He has a Master of Engineering ( Energy) – Electric Power System Management from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
