Two for­m­ers Dzongdags and a for­mer par­lia­men­tar­ian join PDP

The Peo­ple’s Demo­cratic Party ( PDP) has roped in two for­mer Dzongdags and for­mer Na­tional Coun­cil mem­ber to con­test the 2018 par­lia­men­tary elec­tions.

The for­mer Dzongdag of Trongsa, Sonam Rinchen, will con­test from Ch­hu­mig – Ura con­stituency in Bumthang while the for­mer Dzongdag of Zhem­gang Dzongkhag, Harka Singh Ta­mang, will con­test from Gele­phu con­stituency in Sarpang. The for­mer Na­tional Coun­cil mem­ber, Ka­mal Ba­hadur Gu­rung, is the party’s new can­di­date from Kilkhorthang – Men­del­gang con­stituency in Tsir­ang.

All the three can­di­dates have vast ex­pe­ri­ence hav­ing served long years in the civil ser­vice, hold­ing im­por­tant lead­er­ship po­si­tions. Their ex­pe­ri­ence, qual­i­fi­ca­tions, and lead­er­ship abil­i­ties have fur­ther added value to the party’s al­ready tal­ented pool of can­di­dates for 2018 elec­tions.

Hav­ing served as Dzongdags both Sonam Rinchen and Harka Singh Ta­mang have gained the trust and con­fi­dence of the peo­ple as ca­pa­ble ad­min­is­tra­tion lead­er­ship. They also have, to their credit, the ex­pe­ri­ence and cre­den­tials of hav­ing closely worked with cen­tral govern­ment, the lo­cal govern­ment, the lo­cal govern­ment and the grass­roots com­mu­nity.

The for­mer Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment, Ka­mal Ba­hadur Gu­rung, has the much- needed ex­pe­ri­ence as a leg­is­la­tor hav­ing rep­re­sented the peo­ple of Tsir­ang in the Na­tional Coun­cil from 2013 to 2018.

The PDP be­lieves that strong and dy­namic lead­ers are not only nec­es­sary but also vi­tal in the demo­cratic process. And to this end, the party has made con­sci­en­tious ef­forts in pick­ing the most ca­pa­ble can­di­dates so that the peo­ple of Bhutan have a di­ver­sity of lead­ers to choose from.

All the three can­di­dates be­gin a new chap­ter in their ca­reer, the PDP is con­fi­dent that they will con­tinue to con­trib­ute to the process of na­tional build­ing and strength­en­ing of our democ­racy.

For­mer Dzongdag for Ch­hu­mig – Ura con­stituency, Bumthang

The for­mer Dzongdag of Trongsa Dzongkhag, Sonam Rinchen, 59, is PDP’s new can­di­date from Ch­hu­mig – Ura con­stituency in Bumthang Dzongkhag.

In a ca­reer span­ning 33 years in civil ser­vice, Sonam Rinchen has served in sev­eral lead­er­ship po­si­tions. He served as As­sis­tance Di­rec­tor, Un­der Sec­re­tary and Deputy Di­rec­tor of Royal Civil Ser­vice Com­mis­sion. He also served as Deputy Sec­re­tary of Pol­icy and Plan­ning Divi­sion, Min­istry of Works and Hu­man Set­tle­ment. He was also the di­rec­tor of De­part­ment of hu­man Re­sources and Di­rec­tor of De­part­ment of Oc­cu­pa­tional Stan­dards Min­istry of La­bor and Hu­man Re­sources be­fore serv­ing as the Dzongdag.

He has a Masters in Pub­lic Ad­min­is­tra­tion from Penn­syl­va­nia State Univer­sity, USA.

For­mer Dzongdag for Gele­phu con­stituency, Sarpang

The for­mer Zhem­gang Dzongdag, Harka Singh Ta­mang, 58, is PDP’s new can­di­date from Gele­phu con­stituency in Sarpang Dzongkhag.

He served in the civil ser­vice for 34 years, start­ing as a trainee in the erst­while Plan­ning Com­mis­sion and re­sign­ing as the Dzongdag of Zhem­gang. Dur­ing his long ca­reer in the civil ser­vice, Harka Shing Ta­mang also served as Zonal Plan­ning Of­fi­cer , Un­der Sec­re­tary, Deputy Di­rec­tor and Joint Di­rec­tor of Road Safety and Trans­port Au­thor­ity. He also served as the Ex­ec­u­tive Sec­re­tary of Gele­phu Thromde.

Harka Singh Ta­mang has Bach­e­lor of Arts ( Hons) in Ur­ban Ge­og­ra­phy from DAV Col­lege, Chandi­garh, In­dia.

For­mer MP for Kilkhorthang – Men­drel­gang con­stituency, Tsir­ang

The for­mer Na­tional Coun­cil Mem­ber, Ka­mal Ba­hadur Gu­rung, 51, is PDP’s new can­di­date from Kilkhorthang – Men­drel­gang con­stituency in Tsir­ang Dzongkhag.

He served as the Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment in the Na­tional Coun- cil from 2013 to 2018. Be­fore that, he served in the civil ser­vice and the cor­po­rate sec­tor for 24 years. He served as com­puter Pro­gram­mer, Ex­ec­u­tive En­gi­neer and Man­ager in De­part­ment of Power and as En­gi­neer and Man­ager in Bhutan Power Cor­po­ra­tion Lim­ited ( BPCL). He also served as Se­nior Project Man­ager of Ru­ral Elec­tri­fi­ca­tion Project, BPCL.

As Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment, Ka­mal Ba­hadur Gu­rung Served as Deputy Chair­man of Good Gov­er­nance Com­mit­tee, Mem­ber of Spe­cial Com­mit­tee for re­view of Hy­dropower Pol­icy and Strate­gies and Mem­ber of Joint Par­lia­men­tary Com­mit­tee for amend­ment of Lo­cal govern­ment Act among oth­ers.

He has a Mas­ter of Engi­neer­ing ( En­ergy) – Elec­tric Power Sys­tem Man­age­ment from Asian In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy, Thai­land.
