Vo­ca­tional in­sti­tutes rec­og­nized for qual­ity in ex­cel­lence

The two vo­ca­tional in­sti­tutes in the coun­try were awarded the qual­ity ex­cel­lence award 2018 last Thurs­day. As a part of TVET re­form ini­tia­tive the De­part­ment of Oc­cu­pa­tional Stan­dards un­der the Min­istry of Labour and Hu­man Re­sources ( MoLHR) has em­barked on sev­eral ma­jors ini­tia­tive re­lated to Bhutan Vo­ca­tional Qual­i­fi­ca­tion Frame­work and qual­ity as­sur­ance sys­tem. The reg­u­la­tion for reg­is­tra­tion of train­ing provider has been de­vel­oped in 2010 with the ob­jec­tive to reg­u­late the qual­ity of TVET pro­vi­sion by pub­lic and pri­vate train­ing provider in the coun­try.

A to­tal of 117 train­ing provider both pri­vate and pub­lic are reg­is­tered cri­te­ria with the de­part­ment till date. The ob­jec­tive is to iden­tify the best per­form­ing TTIs and IZCs train­ing provider based on the cri­te­ria, en­cour­age pub­lic train­ing provider to main­tain qual­ity stan­dards and as­sess the strength and weak­ness of TTIs and IZCs train­ing providers.

The event was or­ga­nized to im­prove and main­tain the standard of pub­lic train­ing.

Six tech­ni­cal train­ing in­sti­tutes and two in­sti- tutes for Zorig Chusum were reg­is­tered with the MoLHR com­peted for the award this year. The in­sti­tutes were graded out of 114 point which was di­vided among seven cri­te­ria in­clud­ing their in­fras­truc­tures, fa­cil­i­ties and it’s main­te­nance, gov­er­nance, cour­ses, hu­man re­sources, trainees, qual­ity man­age­ment sys­tems, and in­sti­tute grade.

The Tech­ni­cal Train­ing In­sti­tute (TTI) in Chumey and the Jigme Wangchuck Power Train­ing In­sti­tute (JWPTI) in Sarpang were awarded the qual­ity ex­cel­lence awards 2018 and the ap­pre­ci­a­tion cer­tifi­cates were given to Chumey TTI and Samthang TTI.

The two win­ning teams each re­ceived a cash prize of Nu 100,000 and cer­tifi­cates.

The train­ing Di­rec­tor with JWPTI, Palden Tsh­er­ing said that he is def­i­nitely very happy for re­ceiv­ing the award on be­half of JWPTI. As it’s there first time that they re­ceived the award and it’s all the hard work done by his stu­dents and in­struc­tors.

The Prin­ci­pal of Chumey TTI, Pema Tsh­er­ing said that of course he is very much happy and proud as it is their third time to re­ceive the award. And it’s all the hard work of his stu­dents and the teach­ers. He will try to work hard to bring more im­prove­ment and get the re­sult bet­ter.

The Chief Pro­gramme Of­fi­cer of the De­part­ment of Oc­cu­pa­tional Standard Yeshey Khandu said that the ini­tia­tive is to rec­og­nize and re­ward in­sti­tutes that are work­ing to­wards qual­ity man­age­ment sys­tems. As the qual­ity is not just the trainees but the man­age­ment, in­fras­truc­ture and fac­ul­ties that should be in place
