His Holiness the Je Khenpo donated seven King Long ambulances to the Ministry of Health last Tuesday at the special function in Tendrelthang.

His Holiness performed the purification ceremony (Lhabsang Thruesel) and hand over the ambulances to health ministry. The ambulances were donated by the devotees from abroad to His Holiness which costs about Nu.7.76M.

The ambulances will be dispatched to designated hospital by 26th June. As commanded by His Holiness three ambulances will be given to regional referral hospital in Mongar, Trashiyangtse and Lhuntshe hospitals. These ambulances were committed by the devotees to Chabje Rimpoche in addition to their donation of six ambulances in the past years.

Deputy Chief Program Officer with the Emergency Medical Services Division of the ministry Wangchuk Dukpa said the transportation cost till Kolkata from the manufacturing plant was supported by the devotees and from Kolkata to Thimphu was borne by the Ministry. Samtse and Pemagatshel hospital will be given one ambulance each and Punakha will be given two ambulances as it’s a desired by the devotees as their gesture for providing good services received by them when they visited Bhutan.

According to the standards, the Grade I Basic Health Units (BHU) will get the ambulance but in Bhutan as the BHUs are far from the district hospital, the ministry provides ambulances to some Grade II BHUs, said the health officials.

He also added that currently there are 111 ambulances in the field and with these seven units will add up to 118 ambulances across the country.

The Ministry of Health remains ever grateful to His Holiness the Je Khenpo for this philanthropic contribution.
