Officials from the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Dhaka and the Ministry of Health received the first consignment of essential medicines weighing 35 metric tons from the Government of Bangladesh at the Burimari land port last Thursday. The remaining consignments will be delivered in the same manner in two phases in October and November 2018. According to the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a symbolic handing-over ceremony of the medicines took place on 23 July 2018 in Dhaka between the Bhutanese Ambassador Sonam T. Rabgye and the Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammed Nasim. A total of 258 types of essential medicines will be delivered to Bhutan by the end of the year, which was kindly committed by Sheikh Hasina Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh during the state visit to Bhutan in April 2017. This project is yet another example of the very close ties of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Bhutan.
