Bhutan at the third ministerial conference in space applications
The third ministerial conference on space applications for sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific was held in Bangkok on 10th October, 2018. The Bhutanese delegation was led by Nidup Dorji, vice chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan and interim government advisor to the Ministry of Information & Communications.
The ministerial conference was convened with a universal vision to enhance regional cooperation and consider concrete steps towards expanding the access to, and use of space applications for sustainable development.
The conference endorsed the ministerial declaration, reflecting the policy decisions of governments of the member countries of UN- ESCAP regarding regional cooperation in space applications for sustainable development.
The conference also agreed on the AsiaPacific Plan of Action on Space Applications for sustainable Development (2018 – 2030) - a regionally-coordinated blueprint that harnesses space applications and digital innovations to support countries, particularly those with special needs, to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
The ministerial conference was co-organized by the UN-ESCAP and the Royal Thai Government.
