IMTRAT celebrated its 56th Raising Day in picturesque valley of Haa, with customary grandeur and gaiety. An enthralling opening ceremony, a mesmerising cultural evening show and raising day dinner were all part of mela held from 19th to 22th Oct 2018.

Her Royal Highness Ashi Sonam Dechan Wangchuck was the chief guest for the celebrations. IMTRAT mela on 21 Oct was attended by about 20,000 people including senior dignitaries from armed forces and the government. This year's celebration were more significant since Bhutan and India are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic ties. The theme of mela was to project the bonds of Bhutan India friendship, which has stood the test of times and promoting a clean and green Bhutan.

About 50 students of Haa Dzongkhag along with volunteers from Clean Bhutan, RBA and IMTRAT took the initiative to spread awareness amongst all shops and stalls in conducting a clean and open defeca- tion free event. Toilets and dustbins were set up in large numbers and the result was prominent and positive.

IMTRAT mela popularly as Haa Mela has been in existence since last five decades. It has evolved from a triangular sports meet conducted at MTC Wangdi in 1960s to a grand event which is jointly org by RBA, IMTRAT & Dzongkhag Administration annually. These celebrations are held as part of IMTRAT raising day celebrations.

A large number of teams from Bhutan and India have participated during the event. This year celebration had events like air show by helicopters, martial arts display, dog show, joint military band display by Indian Army and RBA and cultural events by the students under Haa Dzongkhag.

IMTRAT raising day is an important event which helps in further strengthening the bonds of trust and friendship between Bhutan and India.
