MONK PLANTS TREES

A 51-year-old monk has planted more than 5,500 trees and is plan­ning on plant­ing thou­sand more. Tashi Dorji of Phongmed in Trashigang af­ter re­turn­ing from In­dia in 1999 started plant­ing hun­dreds of saplings ev­ery year. He planted over 200 wal­nut trees and to mark the birth of His Royal High­ness The Gyalsey, he planted 108 more trees near Lhakhang. Ac­cord­ing to Tashi Dorji, he hopes that his pas­sion will in­spire other to take up tree plan­ta­tion as he be­lieves in both re­li­gion and sci­ence giv­ing im­por­tance to plant­ing trees.
