BIRTH OF TheGyalsey
The most important milestone of the year 2016 that all Bhutanese were expecting with bated breath was undoubtedly the birth of The Gyalsey, His Royal Highness, Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck.
Toward midnight on February 5, the predecessor to the Golden Throne was born in the same birth year as Guru Rinpoche and the 400th anniversary of Zhabdrung’s arrival in Bhutan.
The auspicious tiding was accompanied by much joy and celebrations.
The Tendrel initiatives including creating publicity and awareness among the Bhutanese public of the three historical events, the production of a 500-page album containing wishes and prayers for the Prince and finally, the planting of 108,000 trees by thousands of volunteers marked The Gyalsey’s birth celebrations.
The Gyalsey was named in a grand ceremony at the Punakha Dzong on April 16, 2016.
