Am­bas­sador Pema Cho­den pre­sented her Letter of Cre­dence to His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain on April 5, ac­cred­it­ing her as Am­bas­sador of King­dom of Bhutan to King­dom of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid,.

Ac­cord­ing to the press re­lease from the for­eign min­istry, His Majesty King Felipe VI wel­comed Am­bas­sador Cho­den to Spain and con­veyed his warm wishes to His Majesty the King of Bhutan. He ex­pressed ad­mi­ra­tion for Bhutan’s suc­cess in so­cio-eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment and democ­racy and as­sured his sup­port to strength­en­ing bi­lat­eral re­la­tions between the two coun­tries.

Dur­ing her stay in Madrid, Am­bas­sador Pema Cho­den called on the Min­is­ter of Agri­cul­ture and Fish­eries, Is­abel Gar­cia Te­je­rina, as well as the United Na­tions World Tourism Or­ga­ni­za­tion, which had its head­quar­ters in Madrid. Dur­ing the meet­ing, both sides ex­pressed in­ter­est in work­ing closely to­gether and ar­eas for fu­ture co­op­er­a­tion were dis­cussed.

Am­bas­sador Pema Cho­den also vis­ited the King’s Col­lege School in Madrid and met Sir Roger Fry, founder of the school, who has been pro­vid­ing schol­ar­ships for Bhutanese to study at the school since 2011.

For­mal diplo­matic re­la­tions between Bhutan and Spain were es­tab­lished on Fe­bru­ary 11, 2011.
