AMBASSADOR PRESENTS LETTER OF CREDENCE
Ambassador Pema Choden presented her Letter of Credence to His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain on April 5, accrediting her as Ambassador of Kingdom of Bhutan to Kingdom of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid,.
According to the press release from the foreign ministry, His Majesty King Felipe VI welcomed Ambassador Choden to Spain and conveyed his warm wishes to His Majesty the King of Bhutan. He expressed admiration for Bhutan’s success in socio-economic development and democracy and assured his support to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
During her stay in Madrid, Ambassador Pema Choden called on the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Isabel Garcia Tejerina, as well as the United Nations World Tourism Organization, which had its headquarters in Madrid. During the meeting, both sides expressed interest in working closely together and areas for future cooperation were discussed.
Ambassador Pema Choden also visited the King’s College School in Madrid and met Sir Roger Fry, founder of the school, who has been providing scholarships for Bhutanese to study at the school since 2011.
Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Spain were established on February 11, 2011.
