JANGSEM MON­DAY GAINS POP­U­LAR­ITY

Jangsem Mon­day, an ini­tia­tive started by a for­mer producer of Bhutan Board­cast­ing Ser­vice, Karma Dendup, to go meat­less on Mon­day is gain­ing pop­u­lar­ity. It has seeped through to the 15 schools, daycare cen­ters, NGOs and few ho­tels. The ini­tia­tive al­ready has over 200 mem­bers who took the pledge.

To take it to across the coun­try, the ini­tia­tive al­ready has 15 vol­un­teers as Dzongkhag co­or­di­na­tors who are all teach­ers. Karma Dendup plans to reg­is­ter Jangsem Mon­day as a Civil So­ci­ety Or­ga­ni­za­tion. He also plans to have an­nual vegetarian potlucks and food fes­ti­vals to pro­mote veg­e­tar­i­an­ism in the coun­try.
