Af­ter this up­beat news, I say good­bye and aim for those faint tracks. The bound­ary of the Hainaveld is roughly de­lin­eated by the A3 tar road, the Kuke vet­eri­nary fence and an­other vet­eri­nary fence that runs from Makalam­abedi (next to the Boteti River) south to the CKGR. It’s ba­si­cally all the land be­tween Maun and the CKGR.

There are some fenced-in farms in this re­gion. The Botswana govern­ment en­cour­aged farm­ing so that the Hainaveld could act as a buf­fer zone to pre­vent the spread of foot-and-mouth dis­ease from the north to the com­mer­cial cat­tle farms around Ghanzi.
