The Africa Report - - BRIEFING -

In April, scientists announced that a new experimental treatment for Ebola had proved successful in trials on monkeys, while medical journal The Lancet published details of promising final trials for a new anti-malaria vaccine. Despite the fact that only half of children treated with anti-malaria drug RTS, S/AS01 recovered, the results represent a major step forward in combating the disease, which kills more than 1,300 children each day in sub-saharan Africa. No other vaccine has achieved even this level of success.
