Ssched­uled for launch in Novem­ber, the ONYX 401 by South Aafrican startup ONYX Con­nect boasts of be­ing the first s mart­phone to be man­u­fac­tured in Africa. The com­pany wwill sell the en­try-level smart­phone at a re­tail price of $40, s lightly more ex­pen­sive than the $30 ini­tially an­nounced. Tthe hand­set runs on An­droid ver­sion 7 and sports a 4-inch sc­creen, with low-qual­ity spec­i­fi­ca­tions that go hand-in-hand wwith the bud­get-friendly price tag. The Jo­han­nes­burg­based b startup also launched a 3G and Wi-fi-en­abled feea­ture phone ear­lier this year, which costs about $20.
