Tan­za­nian takes trade deal is­sue to EAC court

ARUSHA - A law lec­turer at Iringa Univer­sity is pe­ti­tion­ing the East African Court of Jus­tice not to pre­vent the sign­ing of the Eco­nomic Partern­er­ships Agree­ment with the Euro­pean Union.

Castro Shir­ima says in his pe­ti­tion , ‘If it is not stayed, any fur­ther sig­na­ture will al­low rat­i­fi­ca­tion and re­gional ap­pli­ca­tion of the agree­ment, which will most likely dis­place EAC prod­ucts from the mar­ket thereby un­der­min­ing in­dus­tri­al­i­sa­tion pol­icy and tar­iff regimes­ments and pro­vid­ing ca­pac­ity to such busi­nesses in dif­fer­ent parts of the con­ti­nent.’
