Dan­ish firm deep­ens Kenya cof­fee foot­print

NAIROBI - Agri­cul­ture min­istry of­fi­cials here want to in­crease the amount of lo­cally roasted cof­fee by 10% dur­ing the next five years.

The an­nounce­ment came as African Cof­fee Roast­ers (ACR), a Dan­ish owned com­pany, started op­er­a­tions last week.

Poul David Vide­baek, the ACR man­ag­ing di­rec­tor said, “Hav­ing re­al­ized that most of the money is lost be­tween the pro­ducer and the con­sumer by in­ter­me­di­aries/ mid­dle men we de­cided it was time for us to en­gage our­selves in mak­ing cof­fee pro­duc­tion prof­itable for cof­fee pro­duc­ers while at the same time en­abling us to make in­no­va­tive prod­ucts for our con­sumers.”
