SOLOMONS SLOWLY SINKING AND ITS NOT ALONE…

Human induced sea-level rise is already having an impact on low-lying islands. At least five reef islands in the Solomons have already been completely lost and six more are under imminent threat, having been severely eroded.

The lost islands hosted vegetation that was thought to have been around 300 years old. One island that is home to 25 families, Nuatambu, has lost over half of its habitable land.

The evidence, published in the journal Environmental Research Letters, is one of the first to document and prove the growing body of anecdotal accounts of the rapid and serious impact that human-induced climate change and its associated sea-level rise is having on vulnerable communities living on low-lying islands.
