FIJI’S FIGHTING BACK!

-

On the morning of February 20, 2016, Fiji experienced the most powerful cyclone in the Pacific nation’s recorded history. Most dive operators have since reopened for business and are once again running dive trips in the “soft coral capital of the world”. As a result, they have been able to assess the effects of the cyclone on Fiji’s reefs.

Reports suggest that damage has been minimal and marine life is flourishing! For instance, in the last three months, guests on the Fiji Siren liveaboard have reported plenty of mantas and sharks, beautiful corals with plenty of macro life and lots of schooling fish. Most of the coral reefs have only been partially damaged and many are already showing signs of recovery! That’s great news for Fiji’s ocean wilderness, and for the communites which benefit from dive tourism on the islands.
